Moving a car with no brakes (can't do the 2 driver rope pull) and no clutch (to speak of) 50 miles, including up some really big hills:

    How?

I got a bitchin' deal, but in order to keep it this bitchin' I've got to avoid flushing money just moving the thing. A tow truck might cost more than I paid, and more than it would take me to have it running.

Anyone know anything about flat towing? I know it's highly dangerous and people used to do it all the time, now it seems to just be something you do behind your motor home with an expensive tow kit that I'm not buying. Is there an accepted and appropriately dangerous way of doing it wrong and cheap? Or anything similar I should look into?

(I hear the brakes only have a slow leak, but even if bled and all, I think having someone behind the wheel would make talking out of an expired tag ticket impossible - and traveling at highway speeds on a rope sounds like a recipe for flaming death)

I had these great big plans today...up at the freakin crack of dawn. Got a load of towels washed and hung out...but I wasn't keeping up with my intake of firecrackers.

lordhavemercy...So, I wound up spending a while [IMG]

    Then I went to sleep.

Hard to clean up from the bed. gad...

Now I'm up putting on hair color, and planning on my next clean-up move. :) Procrastinate much? lol I need to come up with some smart, quick plans...I probably better get ready to put on my rubber boots for trips to snake heaven basement...good to store junk. lol but still :yikes:

And the fridge wasn't cleaned up because by the time The Mother came back home, I'd already gone through the throw-up faze and was sleeping that off.

    lordhavemercy

After this hair color thing, I should do that fridge...I can hide the trash bag in my trunk. :D

i used to use a rigid tow bar

but that was for junk...id just smash the front bumper/grill off with an axe and use chains with bear trap binders

then after way too many near death experiences i retired that method ...now i only use car dolly or trailer....technically i could do both at once since my trailer is a gooseneck but i never have (gooseneck and 5th wheel here are allowed to tag another with ball)

your best bet is to find someone with a car trailer or dolly that will do it for cheap

I've got to say this BBAD SpaceMan...you've told us how you have OCD and ADD; but all I can say is it either it suits you and/or you are able to work it to your advantage since you are self-employed and imo do quite well for yourself!

You even helped out old neighbors you HAD TO TALK LIKE THIS TO (until they either died and/or moved), so that tells me even more...that everything you do is not about making a buck.

If you do for others, I'm like 99.9% sure it comes back to you, one way or another...but rarely from those you do or have done for. :) <--------------------my one thought of the day.

Should be able to rent a tow bar... You would need a hitch on the pull vehicle though.

Are they commonly rented? I was thinking about trying to rent a dolly.

Honestly I've never pulled anything at all, know nothing about hitches, etc.... I might be able to borrow a half ton pickup with a receiver - don't know if it's wired up for lights and such, don't think it's ever pulled anything.

I live in the middle of nowhere... I think there's a rental car place that might rent dollies, but uhaul is a loooong way away.

Tow bars used to be available at most rental places... I haven't rented one in quite awhile though. They may have been replaced with the dolly these days.

    tow bars are dangerous

most u-haul places will want to inspect the truck before renting dollies or trailers

i still think youre better off finding a local person that has a dolly or trailer ...put an ad on craigslist or in the local food place wherever people will see it

look in peoples yards for car trailers and dollies lol i hate it when people knock on my door ...i dont tow for people due to insurance but some people might
