Our vacation starts on Friday, and it can't come soon enough. I've spent the last couple of days in a paralysed state of anxiety and depression. Benzos work great to get rid of the anxiety, but they make it pretty difficult to actually get anything done that requires either motor skills or cognitive ability. I start thinking about dying a lot when I'm feeling like that. I don't feel suicidal, but I just think about dying a lot and how much easier it would make things. I think I'm lucky that I have a loving wife and family, because I can see how things could progress quickly to suicidal thoughts for someone who doesn't have the sort of emotional support that I have available to me.

I feel like I'm coming out of it now, which is good, because otherwise I think I may have ended up in the psych ward for the first time ever. I had an essay due tonight, but my professor was very understanding and told me to take up to a week extra to finish it. She said that she went through similar issues during her undergrad, so she can relate. Thank god. I probably won't do as well in this class as I could have, but as long as I pass, it means it wasn't a waste of $600.

Coming out of the anxious/depressed state is a very surreal, almost psychedelic experience for me. Colours seem more vibrant, smells seem stronger, I notice how nice the warm breeze coming through the window feels. I look at my plants and see them as these incredible things, turning water and sunlight into life, whereas when I'm feeling down I just see them as another chore. When I'm anxious, it's like I feel so overwhelmed by everything that my mind just starts to block everything out, even the positive things, and then I end up depressed as well. Very strange and hard to explain.

Once I'm back from my vacation, I'm going to put some serious effort into finding either a part-time job or somewhere to volunteer. I'd really like to give some of my time to an organization that works with the mentally ill, because I can't imagine what it is like to go through anything worse than this, and I'm well aware that my particular variety of mental illness is on the mild end of the spectrum.

Anyway, sorry for the pity fest, I just needed to get some things off of my chest and I don't really know where else to do it. Facebook is too personal, and I don't want this shit attached to my name for the rest of my life. This is the only place where I can semi-anonymously spew this shit out and not expect people to think poorly of me for it. Actually, I guess it's the only place that I can write this stuff and not care if people think poorly of me.

TL;DR: Was feeling awful, now feeling more positive. Need a vacation. Love you guys.

Bananas are delicious. I've never had plantains before, they seem to be pretty popular in certain parts of the world though.
