    Nite Nite Ori.

Lynn, I guess I said the wrong thing. I knew I had Family Feud on Thursday so last weekend I said to the universe "Please no drama from my daughter this week. Just let me have a nice, normal, smooth week so I'll be relaxed to play the Feud."

Well, there was no drama surrounding my daughter but it was my niece this time.

I'll just keep my mouth shut from now on.

I've been waking up in a good mood lately... it is nice. I think all the sunshine is good for me. Getting high on vitamin D.

Depends on what company you're keeping, lol.

Another jailbreak by helicopter in Quebec. Second one in under a year.

That's strange indeed. You would think there would be some good precautions against that at least after the first time... :p

Organized crime is pretty entrenched in Quebec society, from what I can tell. They probably bought off some guards at the prison.

Not sure if it was the same prison both times or not, but either way you think that they would be ready for it, lol.

Yeps, not that hard to keep an inmate from climbing in a helicopter that's not supposed to be hovering above (or even landing in) a prison. I imagine canadian prison guards also have guns? :p

Time to hammer out 8 pages on the relationship between resource wealth (oil) and democratization. Spoiler alert: countries with more oil are less likely to transition to democracy.

Doesn't that depend on the country a lot, egg? I can imagine history, region/geography, cultural affiliation/influence all impact that. I mean Norway seems to have a lot of oil too for example. Maybe it depends more on who over the course of that oil 'harvesting' was in charge of the industry? Do they have more/better functioning democracy in the united emirates or in Nigeria? Very interesting subject! :)

It seems that countries that discover their energy resources after they have already transitioned to democracy, or are on their way to transitioning (which includes having an educated population and a productive economy outside of the resource sector), are not really affected by the 'resource curse'.

One of the big theories, that makes sense to me, is that significant income from natural resources (mainly oil and gas) provides the regime with a constant income source that is not dependent on the overall economy of a nation. This means that they can afford to repress their citizens' freedoms without really caring that it means that they end up with less tax revenue. It also means that they can afford to bring in specialized labour from outside, and do not need to bother educating their population (which would make the population more likely to push for democratization).

It is a very complex topic, lots to think about. An 8-10 page paper is definitely just scraping the surface. This topic is also a bit out of my comfort zone, as I'm far from an expert in political science or economics.

It's a good thing school's for learning and not for experts :D Yeah, most things are more complex than we'd like or perceive them to be :p But I agree, it seems a plausible theory nevertheless!

one my instructors took the week off for vacation ,, he'll be back tomorrow. I wonder if the rest of the class will come back too. really only 5hours a day and these people dont even come to class. why you take out 31K loan to not come to school. this one guy he has the worst luck of anyone I know. Since Ive been in school his mom had gotten robbed by some junkies he needed to stay home and take care of her, then he come home from ballgame drunk and got jumped 2times, then he was moving and a refrigerator fell on him < funny I just moved one those things and it wasnt very heavy at all. little muscle tension but not deadly.

they hand out refund checks on friday. he's taken all his money out so he never shows up on friday. he missed 4days this week. which is a suspension from the program. but im sure he will talk his way back into it. hes also has had electro mech and basic refrigeration but cant wire up a machine. he asked questions on fan circuitry and cant figure out what you mean when you say break the common wire, is it the black or white wire??. geeze..
