i just got back from a bush drive and a night swim

its amazing how the trails change in just a few years...but all the major landmarks are still easy to find....i recognized the spot where i drove for the first time...the spot where that cat got buried...the spot where i took that 3 wheeler flipout because some ass with a back hoe decided to grab gravel from the trail ...the spot where my father lived once the house is long gone but theres still a bit of foundation..and so many more memories

i think it has to be a slow creeping spread of progress. the thing is, i think most people see a big problem and cant see a big solution. thats because there isnt one, it hundreds of little solutions. i think legalizing marijuana is a gateway to having our fucking opinions heard by our officials. i think the REAL fight will be over food, its a bear of a fight, and you can feel it waking up. people want good healthy food, the gubmint subsidizes the crap. the genetically modified, the pesticide drench, the antibiotics crammed into creatures crammed into pens. of course thats what the gubmint wants us to eat.
the more people make and do for themselves, the more disruptive it will be to the status quo. the gubmint can allow it, cooperate with it, or fight it. and theres lots of peole who have a garden, who share out their extras. they are going to have a hard fight from regular folks if they tell them they can not dry or can their goods for later, or that anything excess for your family size must be destroyed.

legalizing pot is a doorway, barely cracked open. but theres lots of public opinion that can get through it, and a lot that should get through it. i dont believe that most people are bad. i do think a lot of people are terminally stupid, which is unfortunate, but most people are decent, in their own world. there are bad folks, WBC for example, but their badness stands out, because its a collection of bad people hating together. most people are not like that. we can disagree about a lot of things, but our representative should represent ALL of us, not just the people who voted for them. its not about what any one senator or representative believes, it should be about making the best laws, that do the most to protect us, to serve our society, with the least amount of infringement to our freedoms.

im getting dizzy up here on my soapbox. vote for me in 2020!

Great point about the food, I have read about the GMO's. I also was reading they expect food prices to rise due to global warming. Crops just don't yield what they used to.

a lot of the yield problems can be attributed to mono-cropping. if i had an acre, i would not be planting it all to corn, or wheat, or beets. if a pest decides its their favorite- the crop is fucked.
when you plant your own (heirloom) vegetables you pick the biggest, the best, the specimen of food that has the most desired qualities- and you use that one for seed next year. big ag doesnt give a fuck if its the best, or if it has a nutritional value. or if it has sat in a pesticide bog. and most of the pesticides are washed into the watertable to poison everything downstream. topsoil is blown away or eroded. how much organic matter is worked back into the soil on an enormous farm? a smaller farm allows you to amend the soil over time, letting it rest a little, building it up.... how much aged manure would it take just to start fixing the earth of a 40 acre farm? mountains, mountains of shit. and thats what we are in if we cant get over the problems and get to working on the solutions. bone meal, blood meal, rock dust, lime. compost and humus. hands in the earth. not saying that big farms and tractors dont have their place too, but we have been stupid about machinery in this country for a long time. its hard to stir up the dust bowl when theres topsoils and prairie grass roots and a few trees, and the shit from the herds of grazing animals. but no. we killed vast swaths of prairie grass to till for our farms. we fenced out what was left of the buffalo and other wild creatures. there has to be SOME kind of balance to make it work and flow. its harder the bigger the scale you try to achieve, but we are HUMAN. we have brains that are AWESOME at problem solving. i mean really, thats what our species DOES. its our claim to fame. why do we not encourage people to solve our food and water problems first? it makes NO sense.

this is why i want to play in my yard, my dirt. see what makes the best solutions, and combine them, and tweak them, and find the middle ground. how much can i grow/ produce on my 0.24 acre? and if i can, how can i make it easier while still considering the long-term health of my bit of earth?

the possibilities are endless, i try no to be all "DOOOOM!" but there are patterns to see, and i can not be willfully ignorant. preparedness has many flavors. mmmm, delicious survival.

i dont tend to have a lot of people over, im a hermit and i like my privacy. once i have gone through everything and gotten the majority put away so that my house is not visibly cluttered i might have more people over. i just know that i am comfortable messy, and i get kind of embarrassed because thats not acceptable to outside eyes. i just have to see stuff to know where it is. even just getting half the house cleaned up for my grandmother, im so fucking lost. i cant find shit. clothes, kitchen ware, magicked off by the gremlins. or so it would seem. you'd think that things would be easier to find put away, but nope. gremlins.

I did screenprinting twice in my life....one of my first and also one of my last jobs......near 20 years total.....i'm pretty much a master in old school manual printing...multi color stuff.....at least I used to be good at it

press costs about 1900 bucks.....plus another thousand to start up.....someone offered me the shop essentials like dryers and exposure unit[5,000].for free so I figure what the hell

my first shirt will be some variation of my avatar on a red tee shirt.....i'm very excited about it
