the other day i installed ubuntu linux on a friend's older MacBook. the situation with that computer was bad to begin with, older machine, recent versions of OS X woukdnt support it.

the issue that i realized after doing this is that this Mac only has a single mouse button, so i ended up remapping the FN key scan code to emulate a right click ... i thought that this was just a temporary hack and that we could probably think of a better solution but this person didnt seem interested in thinking about it too hard about it so I left it that way. Its missing a few other keys like page up/down keys and print screen, etc ... i dont think it'll matter though with the way they intend to use the computer tho.

with ubuntu its way more secure if nothing else, OS X 10.6.8 no longer gets updates, still vulnerable to shellshock which allows a hacker to do literally anything you can do with a computer, with root privilaged without actually being root. I actually used that vulnerability to initially reset the root password which they apparently didnt know because it was a used computer.

The boy is supposed to bring me a mouse that will fit in this "special" laptop. Of course the mouse used with my beloved won't fit here in this "new and improved" (Tommyknocker) thing I'm on.

I'm not about to spend any of my saved money on something that can/will be brought to me for nothing. :)

I'm about to start in on yard work for real this week. lordhavemercy, I both dread it and look forward to it.

Unless the exact right job, with the right hours falls into my lap, I consider being here and getting the yard and house in shape AND looking after Mama (not letting her drive without actually telling her this) and doing the myriad things she wants done in the yard to be my job.

She's 95, to be 96 12/21/2015...so I consider myself lucky that I'm going to get to do this.

Plus I've saved enough to be able to at least keep myself some firecrackers for a little while. :D

Yard and gardens are getting watered today... It's not my idea.

Little female Golden Finch flew into the window this morning... I can't fix a broken neck. :bigcry: She was buried under the Redbud and there is a stone there now.

oh, and im fixing to walk over to the bank, and open an account. my turn to handle the finances. so we should be able to pay the mortgage and get ahead. i think i will set it up to add hubby at a later date. they will need his info and signature to do so anyway. get some shit paid down. buy what we need. should be a good change. as it is with what im depositing we will already be slightly ahead, before other bills, and i have enough cash to get basic groceries. hubby had to drive today, which super sucks. and its not the best work shift. he will be lucky to make enough to cover buying more bus passes. our other account has been bogged down by auto-payments (not my idea, i warned him) and its inconvenient. so we will try to get it in the black as soon as we can, but the house payment must take priority.

Yeah.... One of the bad things about having a house full of windows. Many times I can get them and hold them, to keep them away from predators, until they are okay to fly again.

Sometimes there's nothing I can do though.

im guessing it isn't only men that spend so much that the debt is there for years, but both of my sisters husbands are the ones that spent way too much and now they are digging out their boats full of water with a red solo cup. then there is my uncle who gambles so much that my aunt is in the same position as my sisters. am I the only guy in the family that is good with money? well there is this pipe thing i have to get fixed so maybe even I will have made a bad money decision in buying this house. we shall see.

so i am playing this game called life is strange in which you can turn back time.
so my question is this thinking about the movie deathnote.

would you rather the ability to turn back time for 2 minutes at any point in time or the ability to kill someone by simply writing their name in a notebook?

    yay free pizza!

hubby was never taught how to handle money. ive tried to teach him/ let him learn for a long time now. im ready to be back on top of it. we have a car to buy, home repairs, baby on the way. we can be paid off on most of our bills if he would just quit swiping that damn debit card. i like to eat out, but not enough to actually do it most of the time. i like to go shopping, at thrift stores, and even then im a cheapskate. we have 2 credit cards paid all the way down now. if he keeps bringing in the cash, i will keep it safe. any "allowance" i get as the stay at home parent ends up getting saved up until we need it for groceries anyway. maybe he will learn better by example. his mother always spent on her vices first, we have money so lets do something fun! and his other family members seemed to always HAVE money, so why not spend it? not a good basis for life money skills. my dad would take me to deposit my paychecks every week, and would ask me how much i was keeping out in cash, and why/ what for. $20 for fast food, $20 for fabric. he never told me i couldnt keep an amount out, he just wanted me to think ahead.

turn back time by 2 minutes.
