Harlan Ellison has some pretty cool sci-fi type short stories. He used to be one of my dad's favourite authors, and I've recently started reading some of his stuff. It's pretty good. I think he may have written some novels too if you aren't willing to read short stories.

 

this month they passed a law in greece making it legal for supermarkets to sell non perishable food well past its expiration date for much cheaper prices so that consumers will be able to afford food

I think thats a fantastic idea. Something they should pick up on here in the US. Except maybe dedicate a special aisle of the supermarket for the goods.

 

no..its a horrible idea that will further separate those that have from those that havnt....if anything they should be offering it free without a law

I see what your saying. My fiancé receives food stamps and it's quite embarrassing when the cashier has to see the EBT card whenever theres an error so i understand what your saying. But its better than just throwing them away. I think they should be donated to a "feed-the-hungry" type program...

Food shelves in the US depend on these non-parishable expired items to fill their shelves... they get all kinds of items from the local stores that are "expired" but still perfectly fine for folks to eat.. our local food shelter always has expired stuff from the local walmart and other grocery stores

 

trust me...poor people get angry when you expect them to eat out of date food...they will rioting in greece in no time...thats why it should be voluntary and free

a politician got creamed on twitter in canada this week when she suggested that the meat being thrown out in the tainted meat debacle could be given to the less fortunate....

she thought it was a good idea to feed poor people tainted meat because they were showing bulldozers pushing tons of meat into a landfill...she later apologized lol

 

i'm in a scrap with my foodbank because they asked to see my utility bills and i said fuck you....they want to see how i spend the few dollars i have each month and i told them no

 

They just ask you to give a rough estimate of your household income here in town.. no need for any "proof"

 

i just got of the phone with the second in command and after some debating she over-rided the computer to show i qualify for the once a month visit which is the most that you can go....some people only can go 3 times a year?....the old foodbank in perth was way better

 

damn.. that's crazy.. it's once a month here... gf came home with 3 bags of groceries the other day

 

man... these spicy pickles I canned are dank as fuck!.. canned with habanero and cayanne
