Wow that job interview went better than the last one. My dilemma though is this. I'm contracted and they want a months notice. I plan on giving them nothing though, I just want out. Now if I don't work I don't get paid anything, so although I'm contracted it's not a financial contract. I'm my own boss, I believe I should be able to say when I quit and when I don't. If they don't want me to quit but I throw a sick day, they're in the same predicament. They need to find a replacement and I won't get paid anyway. What should I do? I know they're going to ring my base for references etc. and they're going to be surprised. I think my two options are;

Be a downright **** to them as they are me, give them no warning and leave when I have a job

Or

Talk to them today, tell them this is what's happening, these are the reasons and I'd appreciate if they honoured me in letting me further my career at short notice.

Yeah, I made sense out of his religion for him so we could get through the defensive crap and thus the offensive characterizations. It was made clear that he feels that is where his conviction in life lies on every level and so I took up his language. Getting excited for the Phish shows this weekend. Allot of people are camping at the venue but I would rather make the drive and hang out at home. The place is built on top of toxic waste but it is worth it.

Decided not to tell work anything. If I'm offered a job and I accept it and it starts tomorrow tough shit.

 

Your employer has no loyalty to you if your performance isn't perceived as good for him. It's not tough shit but it is the way people get to feeling burned sometimes. It would probably cost the employer more time and money trying to secure damages for breach of contract than it would to get on to hiring someone else.

 

Well the thing about my contract is it's not financial. All it says is I work for them. There's no money involved so there's also no damages really they just need to find somebody else to annoy to make the deliveries for them.

It's not how I want to go, I'd prefer to give some sort of notice that works for them but I'm really not in the position, not the mood, nor do I have the patience to wait out a month notice when these other jobs are immediate starts. I'm just not in the position mentally or financially to give the opportunities up. Nor do I want to hand in my notice without actually having a job.

Yeah, that's what I think anyway., I think. Like they can't say "oh well we won't pay you out" because they've got nothing to me out with. I didn't get sick days or leave. Every day off is without pay there's just no money involved. Besides it's so stressful and I'm so over it and I am after all my own boss, I'll take stress leave. sure my contract says I need a replacement driver, but I don't have one anyway so isn't that breaching my contract already? Rofl.

 

So.... I finally nailed down the roofer, he's supposed to be here tomorrow between noon and one o'clock. He's NOT going to like what he sees.... Or what I have to say about the crapsmanship they did on my roof. I'm sure he's gonna try to talk his way out of it, but it's bad, plain and simple.

Oh my...roofers...my heart goes out to you, Ty...as well as sending STRONG tell-him-like-it-is vibes that result in him getting the job done right! Since you paid them, there is no excuse for their crapmanship. (I love that word! )

Today I scored big time with an excellent roofing company who will be dealing with the brain-dead people at Mama's insurance company. He took several pictures, which he also sent to me...showing the previous sob roofer's shoddy work. He got up on the roof, talked, measured, took pics and filled out 2 "forms"...one of which will be sent to the insurance people and the other showing what he is (really) charging.

All I can say is that worrying the hell out of the insurance agency, remaining a very vocal pain to them (from the locals to the headquarters) and then finding this great roofing company proved to have FINALLY paid off.

 

It sounds to me like the single only reason I'd tell them ANYTHING other than buh-bye is because you may want to use them for a reference. If you haven't worked for them that long OR if you have other references, I wouldn't worry even a jot nor a tad about them. Just make sure you have another job to go to immediately. It honestly sounds like your employer is a POS that couldn't care less about their employees. Perhaps a taste of their own medicine would do them well. :crowngrin:

Personally, I'd probably enjoy telling them to shove it where the sun don't shine the second I knew I had another job to go to...but that's just my 57 yr old cynical self coming through.

Let them find someone else to drive crazy.

 

they tore about 1/6 of my roof today and shingled it....tarps don't work here on the island....the wont leave any open roof overnight

people laugh when they see an island rookie rent a house with no garage and try and put up one of those cloth or plastic tent style garages.......

my roofer is 74...he has a 2 man crew...so far anyway....and he sat there and watched every nail they pulled out today........

i'm sure he will save money by cutting a corner or 2 but the dude laid me o enough free shingles to do th chicken coop so he's good with me
