mmmm, grits. i like my grits with fried eggs, pepper and salt. cheap and filling. hubby doesnt like grits, the boy only likes them sometimes. nom nom nom, more for me :) i might have to have that for lunch.

i got some more steel cut oats, got them bulk from the farmers market store. they were on sale $0.69 /lb, but its normally just $0.99 /lb. that is an awesome price. the cardboard canisters are $5+ for just 1.5 lbs. muahahahaha, bulk food savings. they sell spices in bulk too, so when i need more caraway seeds, thats where im going.

on the topic of vitamins from the last thread - I take B12 and vitamin D because they are supposed to help with arthritis. In general, I think that multivitamins are a waste of money, particularly for people taking them as a preventative measure and not because they are actually deficient in something.

not bird seed, so much as 'boy' seed. kid loves the stuff. and it keeps him full a little longer. he is ALWAYS hungry, and i cook good stuff for him. im getting him started in the kitchen, he helped me make waffles last night. figure that way he get to experience the hassle of having someone ask for more before he gets done cooking. i was already cooking for my whole family at his age.

i have to get him up for school in a few minutes.

iirc vitamin D absorbtion involves calcium, so its important to get enough of both, and the best source of vit D is the sun.
there are some issues in CO with Vit D from the sun, becauce we are closer to it, it is much more intense, and sunscreen is almost a religion here. so people tend to block those vital rays. i try not to use a lot of sunscreen, but if its a day im using it i try to get a little sun before i put it on.
i have had some really awful sunburns, and even just having my skin exposed in the car i can often feel the radiation. its a tingly heat, but it feels like it starts at muscle level and moves outward. its a little weird. its worse when the sun is active with sunspots and flares, and when the coronal hole points our way.

very hard to get enough vitamin D here for several months of the year, unless you want your skin to freeze while trying to get it, lol.

filled one grocery bag with gnarly weeds. one was a regular thistle (big sturdy leaves, spikes on the outside) the others, which im trying hard to eliminate while they are small. are canada thistles. they. are. evil.

    http://www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/natres/03108.html

my neighbor says the best way to get rid pf them is round-up. i wont do that to my yard, i want food from my yard, after all. the other option is manual removal. digging up roots where possible, and stressing the plant otherwise, eventually starving the root system so that it cant grow back. unfortunately the canada thistle leaves are weak, so they break very easily, preventing the simple pulling of weeds. the spiky bits are also smaller, so they slip in between the cloth of gloves, and stabby stab. i am even using those rubbery rose gloves, still it manages to get me.

but i got one bag full. ill do more later, and tomorrow, until i dont see them anymore. terrible little things.

Grits are GREAT! :D You need to put lots of butter in them (and of course salt) or (jmo) I wouldn't waste my time eating them. Add in cheese, bacon and eggs and you have an excellent meal. Even my grown boy likes that meal, and that is saying something.

About vitamins...I've found glusosomine (which is what, a supplement? and not a vitamin) helped when my knee was acting up bad. NOTHING helps when my 57 yr old bones and joints want to really act up. Well, some pain pills would help but I have NO intention of going to a pain clinic around here since they test for thc, and I have NO intention of letting that go. ;)

I LIKE Broony. He (and Glen) have always responded to my posts, unlike some other people. :)

I'm not talking about you, my dear precious ROLLING. (I went back and read the last few pages of the closed thread.)

I feel like McD's is literally going to work me to death. At least I'll have a dime (or several hundred) in my pocket and firecracker material to spare.

salt is the most important thing for grits to taste good. im not a huge fan of cheesy grits, but i really only tried it once. would rather have them more on the plain side.

you know whats super salty that i love? boild peanuts. oh man. so good. i cant find raw peanuts here, but sometimes i can find canned boiled peanuts. they arent nearly as good as my PawPaw used to make. mmmmm. and they are so much better hot/ warm.
if anyone wants to send me a big bag of raw peanuts, id be much obliged.

i just found a south dakota quarter, minted last year. it has kind of an awkward perspective of mount rushmore.

Yesterday my mother and I went to one of my 1st cousin's funeral.

It was soooo long, I counted the lights in the ceiling (there were 18). I decided I couldn't count all the MANY crystals hanging from the 2 chandeliers since maybe I couldn't count that high. ;) It was too crammed in the rather big chapel so I couldn't count how many people there were, so I settled for fidgetting after the 1st hour.

It inspired me/made me want to write something short for my own. Nothing more than 1 single page. No extra blathering, no unnecessary words.

There was only 1 speaker (I guess you could call him a preacher or minister or similar) and he has always LOVED greatly the sound of his own voice.

One of the songs played in its entirety (if they didn't somehow find an extra long version) was about "prop me up against the jukebox when I die, I want to heaven but not right now"...I forget the name of the song.

I found he wanted to be/was special friends with a MC...and was somehow "friends" (with the ones I know) just in the last 10-12 yrs or so, riding his harley to chemo treatments sometimes...but he never worked and managed to maintain a silver spoon in his mouth. :) I did find it hilarious that lots (Most) of the family was shocked with all the MC dudes wearing their colors. :D

I have tried it some, eggs...but I just didn't experience a big difference (or any I could really tell) in these oldish bones. I do love eating salmon, but its expensive as hell.

I still do take with fair consistency that combo of calcium, magnesium and vit D.

And ML, I like salty boiled peanuts too. :2thumbsup: But they do have to be warm, or I'm not interested. lol

I've found I like to binge on salty stuff more than sweet stuff. The sweets will go a long way...just a bite or 2 mixed in with lots of salty and I'm good to go. :D
