moonglow, was it Hiwan Homestead museum? i love that place. LOVE IT. the staircase there is made of quarter-sawn logs. its an exceptional place. i tour it every chance i get, i love it so dearly. there is a peace there that is hard to come by. the playhouse in the back is one of my favorite parts. and the chapel is built like a ship's hull, but upside down. and the tiny spiral staircase up to the chapel. and the window seats. ah, such a wonderful place

got a good deal at the estate auction, $10 for a tupperwear tote. got it for the ipod docking radio for my mom but it also had a couple phones a light some plugs and a hairdrier and a few other things in there that made it a bargain.....considering i paid $100 for almost the same radio that she broke it was a damn good deal.

So had grown bitter of my old job... The pay wasn't making me forget I worked for complete morons... So I had been keeping an ear to the street and eyes peeled for any kitchen openings...

About a month ago I responded to a Craigslist ad for a potential FT cooking gig at a restaurant I'd worked at twice previously... Short stints... KM at the time was a moron... It's a seafood restaurant... Limited pricy menu... Average cost per person is around $25... With plates as high as $60... 20 tables... Fancy for the area... I sent my resume and an hour later had received an email back saying it was the owner and he'd call me soon...

We talk and he's asking questions if I'd wanna come in and take over... Current manager is causing all kinds of drama... She was formerly a cook under me at another restaurant before getting this gig... So I'm like sure why not... I really didn't want to be in a management position but I'm also tired of playing second fiddle to people who work or know less than me... Helps that its familiar ground... Dollar less than what I was currently making but hopefully less stress... So he sets me up a time to meet with the future GM...

Go to the restaurant and meet with him... One of the first things he says to me is "owner said you use to work here and that you're a pothead"... "He doesn't care... He still drinks... Just don't do it at work"... Talk about a small sigh of relief knowing you don't have to cover up smoking weed... He also informs me that I'll now be coming in "cold" and that they'd be firing the old manager the day before I showed up... Little bit of stress hits... No order guides... No sense of what the restaurant goes through... No idea when orders happen... Scheduling? Won't even meet the staff until she's been fired... They'll know nothing...

Turns out its been a blessing... The staff she had hired is good at what they do... Old staff came back to help me figure out the first round of ordering... Everyone is happy that she's gone and I'm there... I'm in a really good place right now... Feels good...

    That sounds great jokerman!

If they don't change the schedule back to the way it was when the evil head manager leaves (in 2 or 3 weeks), I'm going to have to start looking for another job again. At my age, in the south and with several simple possessions...it is beyond awful looking for work. It doesn't matter around here that my last "problem" (simple possession) was in 1997.

When I was hired I TOLD them I was not available for work on Sunday mornings...after 2pm until whenever, but NOT SUNDAY MORNINGS. So, this evil bitch has been giving me Sunday mornings for 3 weeks running. She seems to develop amnesia about me and Sunday mornings about every 3 or 4 months.

Even though I've been through this with her before, each time she acts like its a new thing when I ask to please not be scheduled for Sunday morning. I greatly dislike her. They had a party for her today (at McD's) and when I left (5:15), she was standing very near the door and was sort of looking the other way. (We are expected to be the one to speak to the bitch, so she can either acknowledge you or ignore you.)

I believe I would have set myself on fire before speaking to her, especially today.

Aren't restaurant kitchens famous for drugs and partying? Good thing you don't have to worry. Even in Colorado they can still test you if they want. Although the law is probably going to change soon to make that illegal since it would be discrimination for a legal activity. It's being challenged in court.
