I went to the pharmacy today and bought a big bottle of eye drops and a lighter.

Not too hard to figure out my evening plans, haha.

double leaks under the kitchen sink. one from the hot water, where it goes into the top, and the other from the water filter, which i have no ideawhatwearel ooking at as far as replacing/ repairing. if its not one thing in this house, its another. i told hubby i would like to redo the whole kitchen and bath at the same time, since they share a wall (i call it the water wall, the only offshoot is to the laundry room) and that way we only have to worry about fixing/ changing it once.
wont be this year though, so now im trying to figure out how to get the kitchen to a more functional place for cheap or free. maybe look at the habitat restore. definitely need to get rid of the garbage disposal, i hate those fucking things. the upper cabinets are tolerable, for now, but i only have them on one wall. one holds dishes, the other has food. (8 foot wall, 3 feet on either side of the sink) i reallyneed storage by the stove, but i dont think that wall would support a cabinet.

hubby wants me to prioritize projects. ::rolleyes:: they are ALL a priority! if we had more money, we could do them all at the same time. make sink not leak is the current #1, but hey, i put buckets down there, so at least its not running all over the place now. we need new gutters on the outside, we need to fix the sewer line, and cracked tap into the main. it hasnt failed, yet, but no one needs an emergency sewer problem, and we had it looked at when we moved in. the guy said "could last 6 months, or 6 years" well thats comforting. then theres the yard stuff, stumps need to be dug out, ugly bushes trimmed until they can be torn out. need fencing, oh man do we ever need fencing. and a retaining wall in the back, to step down the north end of the yard, which would give us an upper, flat area for playing, and a lower garden/ working area. need to build arbors, and try to save the wisteria, which was growing on a very crappy arbor, and it fell over. need to tear down the badly constructed, moldy shed/ grow room but because my mom is in the garage, a lot of our stuff is being stored out there.
we are getting solar panels put on, but our meter box has no tag for some reason, and the breaker box doesnt have the amperage labelled. the switch says 150, so i assume its that,,. but i cant just write it in. thats another whole project, i want the house rewired. all of it. huge pain in the ass, but i think it would be worth it. and there are several places that need outlets that done have them, like, the whole north wall of the kitchen.

there is just no end, and no means to the end. i look forward to going back to work after baby is born. im going to do all of the things. hubby wont know what happened.

Is there enough floor space in the kitchen for an island?

technically, yes. i have a rolling cart in the middle to help hold stuff, and a small cabinet along the wall for small appliances. tall narrow chelf/ cabinet in the corner behind the fridge, holds cookbooks and kitchen towels, couple of wooden bowls. thats between the fridge and the window, helps keep the fridge door from slamming open.
narrow crappy wire bakers rack, against the fridge holds cereal, tea, and ziploc bags on the bottom, barely leaves room for the garage door to open.
between the garage door and the living room is a shelf unit, needs doors. i just moved most of my mixing bowls and baking dishes over to there.
then we have the south wall of the kitchen. i have a jelly cabinet, with the microwave on top. holds baking supplies, some dry beans, and my big flour container (dog food bin) plus my cooling racks. next to that is a crappy mis-matched cabinet, only one big enough to hold pots and pans. the 2 small drawers hold measuring cups and odd utensils, garlic press can opener, etc, and a pen napkin junky drawer. glass flour canister and coffee pot on top. over that i put a wire rack, its like 1x2 or something. holds coffee, spices, some boxed goods up on top. then theres the stove, i stuck a spice rack to the wall behind it. the corner is taken up by the water heater closet (accessed from the living room)

the east wall is the sink/ counter wall . from right to left (since thats the direction we are moving in around the room) there is a base cabinet with 2 pull-out drawer things, holds oil, vinegar, and spices, (drawer there has silverware) and next to that a gap that i assume used to have a narrow dishwasher, we put the trash can there. above that on the counter are my utensil crocks, and my electric kettle (plus a desk lamp because there is no light for that entire stretch of wall) the upper cabinet has boxed food/ packets, and up high are empty jars, and my colanders. sometimes the liquid measuring cups live up there. any open bags and containers of dry goods go up there usually too.
then we have under the sink, which is typical. a 2 foot single basin sink, which makes washing dishes ridiculous, i really want an offset deep double basin. above that a currently open space where i am altering/ moving the poorly placed shelf to be higher, and adding an LED light bar. and a short cabinet up on top, holding backup sugar, syrup, vitamins, pet treats, that sort of crap.
to the left of that, behind the back door when it is open, the base cabinet has canned/ jarred goods, but its ridiculously deep and difficult to use for food storage, and the shelf is NOT a sturdy enough material to hold the cans and jars safely. one day it will fail, and be a mess. in the drawers above that i have knives, and closest to the wall another odd bits drawer. my meat thermometer is in there. on the counter i have my mixer, and my drying rack for dishes. in the summer thats where i put my countertop oven, so i dont have to heat up the whole house to bake something. dishes in the cabinet above, with short wire racks in the cabinet to increase storage space. cups and stuff. rarely used stuff up on top.
oh, and the floor? its part tile, part fake wood, and not level.

and thats my kitchen, summed up. bread/ onion/ potato storage is in the living room, next to the kitchen. small chest freezer will go in the living room too. table and corner bench is in there, so the living space is limited further by that.
i packed up a lot of glassware and put it out in the garage. i used to keep a lot of my bulkier stuff out there too, i have wire racks for that purpose, but i cant now because i dont want my cooking gear covered in nicotine grime. its so nasty out there.

ReStore might have a couple of cabinets that could be rebuilt into an island that would give cabinet doors on each side. Add a counter top and a pendant lamp if there's a ceiling light over that area.

    I donno.

    They're all treated, 99% certain.

I wouldn't try to put latex (or epoxy, or any other water) paint over them, I'd assume it's the same as painting on a canvas: Oil can go over water, water over oil will be a disaster, because the oil never fully dries but keeps trying, from under the water based paint.

If you're going to paint them, I'd use a heavy duty oil enamel like rustoleum/tremclad/wwhatever. But I don't know that I'd try in the first place.

I've had an infected knuckle on my pinky since I busted it like two weeks ago.

I lanced it a few times at first, it was swollen and I was afraid it would push infected crud into the joint and cause all hell to break loose - then I thought it was solidified, and it stopped getting alarmingly worse, so I didn't see the doc - now today I was picking at what I thought was just the scab, took the (now soft) top off with my fingernails - and lo and behold, it's full of puss (and a few chunks).

Didn't stink, so I think I was right and any infection's been cleared up for a long time - but it still makes me worry a bit. Now I have a crater (or, cave...) on my knuckle. But I sprayed alcohol in it, and no burn, so I guess it's pretty healed - most of the pain's gone.

Packed it with neosporin, only a little scared - I guess if I loose my finger or something it's my own damn fault.
