When CBS bigwigs saw a rough cut of A Charlie Brown Christmas in November 1965, they hated it.
Last year, 13.6 million people watched it, making it the 18th-most-popular show on television the week it aired; CSI was first. One advertiser on the show, financial services giant MetLife, has contracted to use Peanuts characters in its advertising since 1985 and will continue through at least 2012.

How many of u will watch this show this year? I know I will...I love it

I happily watched it this past Tuesday night. Never miss it. Every year I make it a point to watch Rudolph, Charlie Brown, and It's a Wonderful Life. It was also the first time that month-old Baby Gunison got to watch Rudolph and Charlie Brown.

I just had to buy the 3 dvd box set...it has the great pumpking halloween special, the thanksgiving and xmas ones...
I love them. I watch them every year a couple of times actualy, they never bore me.
I also have the grinch... but I don't like the way they digitally remastered it because the grinch isn't even green... I thought it was my tv, maybe it is...
but I still love it... I've already watched it twice since december started and plan on watching it again... is that freaky??
I also love the rudolph, frosty and all those othes ones... I can't find the box set though :(
The thing is I can't aford cable so I'm missing out on all those clasics this year.
Garfield is also a clasic... I found that one at a blockbuster.
I miss saturday morning cartoons :(

  7. $30,000 for 30 seconds advertising space during it.....

the idea was that it shouldn't be commercial....

    hahahahahahaha

that island of the misfit toys thing is just too painful to watch. my sister has it on a dvd that came with the paper. she watched it like 5 times in a row the other day. stay away from it. its cheesy, but not even good cheesy.

and at the end its like they couldn't think of anything original so they just ripped off toy story 2. cept in this movie you just don't care. you want that bear to die. or at least i did.

Toy Story 2 was made around 1999, I think. The original Rudolph and the Land of Misfit Toys was made around 1970.

Ironic that the Charlie Brown cartoon that criticized commercialism of Christmas has become just that. :)

I still like the original, though. I wonder if the broadcast networks like CBS edit out Linus' religious remarks near the end.

VHS box sets of Rudolph, Frosty, and the rest can be found on Ebay fairly cheap.

I like the Grinch, too. :) I thought it was great when Newt Gincgrich shut down the U.S. government during Thanksgiving and Christmas back in the mid 90s and everyone was referring to him as 'The Gingrich Who Stole Christmas." :)

Maybe a remake. I haven't followed the industry lately.

Execs who saw it hated it when it was first made.

It's one of the most successful Xmas shows ever.

    Go figure.

I'll never have a Christmas without it. It's a major fixture of the season. I usually watch it on dvd though; I don't like commercials or any edits.
