Harry Blackmun was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1970 by Richard Nixon. He was considered conservative for his time. He didn't believe true obscenity was protected by the Constitution. And he didn't believe the death penalty per se was cruel and unusual punishment. He did vote with the very conservative Chief Justice Burger 88% of the time between 1970 and 1975. Then in 1975 their relationship changed. He was also a Republican. Though in the end he said he felt alienated by both parties. Some people think Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a liberal. But actually she was considered moderate to conservative on things like criminal issues and business law (she was more progressive on issues like free speech, religious freedom and separation of church and state). Bill Clinton nominated her in 1993 as a centrist. I would almost consider her conservative. But that's just me.
And now we have a basket of deplorables, including those appointed by the last asshat who held the office.
