No he is not getting ready to die. You're basing this on the title of a New York Times article you obviously did not read. All he said is that he is ready to die -- not that's he's dying. In other words, his life's purpose has been fulfilled. That is what he was trying to say when interviewed for that article.
I read after I made this thread...after I got an email about it another article which said....He has had failing health, and he was ready to die in his interview...but then I saw his message of hope, too....that maybe he gets his second wind....so i hope he does...... well, I still want to celebrate him. I used to listen to him all of the time..... I even have to check my reliable sources now....gee whiz.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrLk4vdY28Q

My husband (of eighteen years) and I listened to Leonard Cohen while we were falling in love. Whenever we hear one of his songs ( which is rare unfortunately) we find ourselves gazing and smiling at one another. Where we live only the college stations would be likely to play one of his songs. What a beautiful poet. It's comforting that our children know and enjoy his music.
A comment for pressed rat: Emotionally insightful people often say they are ready to pass. In the hospice for instance, the dying will tell their loved ones to go home or get something to eat and pass in their breif absence. Perhaps he made that statement to comfort his family, friends and admirers as he knew it would be soon, as it was. Your words were harsh. I'msure you could recite some lyrics or repeat a witty quote but I feel sorry that you don't really "get it". That's unfortunate.
