http://web.archive.org/web/20100511...co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article574768.ece This is quite confusing!! Of anyone to say this,YOU WOULDNT THINK A CHURCH WOULD!!
Why not? Church officials have been pondering and nuancating (and disagreeing about) these matters for centuries.
Ya I guess you have a point bud......... I think the bible is a MAN MADE perception of things which may be WAY OFF MARK!!
It matters not whether the stories themselves are historical or not. The only matter of concern is the kind of impact that the stories have on us in the present moment. Are they applicable to my life in the present age? If so, does the application of the lesson given in the story improve my life or not? If it does improve my life, then it is of value to me. If not, then it can be discarded and I can quit wasting my time. However, in either case, the historical accuracy of the story is irrelevant..
This^ However many die hard Christians will get their panties all in a bunch if you tell them that the Bible isnt 100% truth. But I have had Pastors tell me the same thing as the above post
every text of every religion has a lot of good one liners in it. some of those one liners may even at times and in contexts express something approaching wisdom. they are not history books, though they may mention historical events, though often described in such misleading hyperbole as to approach mere fantasy, in passing. they are not scientific texts. they are never intended to be taken as either, and never should be.
Now just a minute. You mean to tell me that the world wasn't created 6000 years ago? That Eve wasn't created from Adam's Rib? That a talking snake didn't convince her to eat an apple which made her self-aware? That Noah's Ark never happened? That Sampson didn't kill a lion and knock down a building with his bare hands? That Lot's wife wasn't turned into a pillar of salt? That Moses didn't part the Red Sea? Damn, what is there left to believe in?
I also hate to break it to you true believers. But the Bible also says there's a firmament in the sky. There is no firmament in the sky. Here, read about it for yourself: Firmament - Wikipedia I also have to tell you. I've stopped believing in the Bible decades ago. But I still believe in God. My God is something I define on a personal level. He (or she) doesn't conform to any book, or anything that anyone else says. Can I get an 'Amen'?
