Catfishing - have you ever done it?

I wanna say it started with -bel or something. The reason I know is I was up all night (last week I think) and reading some stuff from my old subforum. There were some (significant) people really upset about it because they had talked to the girl and spent a lot of time and energy, sharing personal information, etc. And then it was discovered that the pictures were stolen from some other webforum and the real owner of the pictures came onto HF and I think some others from that forum came on here to talk about it. It was a huge drama-fest.

 

If I was ever to post a fake pic, would not be of a hottie..lol

 

personally i don't understand why people on here post sig pictures that have nothing to do with themselves. or why the post pictures of humans at all.

God I missed out on a lot the years I was away from here.

 

That was back in 2006 or 2007 I think. I stopped coming around in 2007 or 2008 and didn't come back until the end of 2011.

 

Perhaps Bella Desorde? I remember that she stirred up----something with some folks.

I remember someone did something like that, but she really was posting her own pictures and made another account claiming to be the original owner of the pictures. I'm not sure wtf that was all about, trying to stir up some shit or something? Anyway, that was probably back in 2008 or so.

 

I haven't catfished but I have been catfished.

I met a guy on POF like in 2009 or something… We started talking online and eventually texting. He was pretty nice, and had tons of pics of himself in the Navy. He said he was a Navy Seal candidate - basically doing the training. This is not too far fetched considering I lived in San Diego and there are tons of Navy guys there because of the base.

Over time, he told me a lot about how he spent his days. He would tell me he was at naval training etc, the things they did that week and what not. I usually take things pretty slowly when I'm getting to know someone so I was in no rush to meet him irl. But he took it even slower than me, and for one reason or another we could never intersect paths and actually meet. This was somewhat frustrating.

Totally randomly, I was at the mall one day in La Jolla and passed by the Apple store. I had to stop and do a double take because I swore that I saw him dressed as one of the employees. So I got a little closer and looked at his forearms, and the dude in the uniform had the same exact tattoos on both arms that the "Navy Seal" had in his pictures. Only this guy was a lot heavier and out of shape and older looking than he was in the photos. We locked eyes and we didn't say anything to each other but it was like we both knew who the other was. I later texted him and asked if I had just seen him, and he confessed yes it was him and that he works at Apple and had been out of the military for almost ten years.

So I was catfished by him in that he passed off very old photos as himself (who were him, yes technically but not anymore because people change you know?) and lied about his whole life really. So that prompted me to quit POF and just date friends I knew instead.

 

I guess that was probably the same thing then Ramona, I don't remember the whole thing exactly I remember being exhausted by the posts trying to figure it out.

 

Bella was one of my main bitches. You know, friend bitches.

I wonder how she's doing these days. I think that was the only HF marriage I've heard of.

 

All I ever found on POF was broke chicks with 4 kids or who weighed 300 lbs. Or just talking and no meeting. I quit that site pretty quick. Sounds like you found the male equivalent.

And La Jolla is quite possibly the most amazing place I've been. Walking around in that cove, of course the tide came in on me. And I remember some restaurant with an upstairs balcony seating area, and a glass wall so you can see the ocean. It's been awhile.

 

Ya I concluded that the quality was pretty lame considering its a free site. Online dating is a joke imo. I am not knocking meeting someone online, like this site for example could be the birthplace of a great relationship because two people could get to know each other long distance / online first (if they're honest). But when the intent is to seek a partner (dating sites), it just doesn't seem genuine and lacks the natural spark because its so direct.

La Jolla is awesome I love the seals. I also love Cardiff Reef, lived there for years, just beautiful.

 

No that's not who it was...that was lynsey, I think. There's been at least 4 other HF marriages that I can think of and quite few HF domestic partnerships (or whatever you wanna call it)

I think long distance is the keyword here. Usually that leads to nowhere (yepp, there are counter examples). The RT peeps who live near me are Asmo, Bird maybe, Piaf, odon and then you .

Yeah the dating sites seem to forced. I'm at the point in my life I want to be friends first (if that's even possible, never done that) so they seem extraordinarily unnatural to me.

And La Jolla was very awesome, though I liked Del Mar/Solana Beach more. Seemed more down to earth. La Jolla was like a sunny Georgetown on the coast. Fun but not really my scene. Never went to Cardiff Reef where is that?

I thought Lynsey was Bella, it was her new name after she got banned or something. And who were the other marriages?

 

Yeah that's what I mean...Lynsey changed her name to Bella.

Cardiff is past Leucadia/Encinitas, near Carslbad...you know, that area. I loved La Jolla.

Cardiff is a tiny surf town directly north of Solana. Basically between Encinitas and Del Mar.

North to South it goes:

Encinitas
Cardiff by the Sea (where Cardiff Reef is located)
Solana Beach
Del Mar
La Jolla

You should check it out when you go back. Its a world famous reef, just because of the geology. Plus tons of surf competitions take place there, like major ones.

 

I went to Encinitas but not Carlsbad or anywhere else that I remember. That's north of solana right?
