Brotherboss says that if he had a crew of hippies exclusively, we would build the traveling equivalent to Disneyland... I have been a traveling carnival worker for 5 years. They call me 'Hip.' During carnival season, I'm the Himalaya operator. I play music louder than any of my compadres, run a 3 switch light show, hyping the crowd behind a microphone. We all live in twin (now 3) Blue Bird buses, converted into bunk rooms. Each room with its own sink, a shower/commode room. When the show is over, it's party time at the bunkhouse. 4:20 friendly. Some get too wasted and have to get 'racked up.' Boss fires up the smoker and the steaks. I usually have my tent set up somewhere away from the chaos..with my DMT vapor pen. As the primary CDL driver of the show, I have to double-triple back hundreds of miles. Depending on setup/teardown conditions (amount of green help) I knock off by sunrise, sleeping til evening in preparation for the jump. Winter quarters is spent restoring rides and building our own stuff. I design and build our carnival's stationary and flash, bringing the theme to life. Unless you have a genuine passion for the work and fellowship, the 12hr day: 7day week: $70/ week will seem like slave labor...but there is much to learn. Any other carnies in the forums? I highly recommend giving the lifestyle a shot. It's great for the soul
