Baby Taz came back. He was gone for 36 hours. I still think that he and Baby Gray Baby were both shut inside the neighbors garage.

We took little Mabon to be spayed today.

She's almost 7 years old and has never had a litter.

We tried to get her spayed a few years ago but the vet had to stop because her heart rate dropped dangerously low on the anesthesia.

I spoke with the surgeon who did Piper's knee surgery and she told me that she could work around that problem.

Mabon had gotten to where she was in heat constantly. She dropped so much weight that she is nothing but bones. Her hair loss is terrible.

The vet said she'd just use pain medication and gas for her surgery vs. intravenous anesthesia.

We're going to pick her up at 2:00.

Apparently, she had no problems. We haven't gotten any calls from the vet.

So glad you were able to find a vet that would work around Mabon's problem.

I expect Princess to have her babies any day now, and I will be having h[IMG]er fixed.

Mr Tips doesn't look quite that good now...he is still recovering from Princess being in heat and Sam (my big sweet boy who I feel has crossed over). He looks Very Good compared to how beat up he was though. :)

So my wife trapped the little black female that has been hanging around. She got a coupon from the township for a free spaying at the Humane Society.
Actually the coupon was for the orange cat that was hanging around but he was too smart for the trap and he disappeared. So my wife called the township and they changed the date on the coupon so we could use it on Miss Blackie.

Just to be sure...she called the Humane society to see if it was okay to use the previously issued coupon and they said sure and if the cat was a nice cat they would find a home for her. Now you have to make an appointment a week in advance and then trap the cat. So we did that and locked her in a bathroom for a day or two waiting for the appointment. Off course my wife had to talk to the cat every day and so on.

So that sounded great. My wife took the cat in and presented the coupon and said that it was a very nice cat and she was told they would find a home for her after the spaying. So the women said, "Can you hold the cat?", and my wife said she's a very nice cat, yes you can hold her. So then the women threw the coupon back at her and said we can't use this it's not a feral cat.

Then my wife blew up. A huge fight ensued between her and three other women at the society and in the end it cost us $89.00 for getting a stray cat fixed for free.

This is the second time she has been screwed by the Humane Society. The first was when she went in with my 7 year old son to adopt a kitten and as he was holding it the women asked if the cat would be allowed to go outside. Being honest my said that it would be an inside/outside cat, the same as all our cats for the last 25 years. The woman snatched the kitten out of my son's arms, tore up the papers and said my wife couldn't adopt any cats from the Humane Society as they aren't allowed to go outside. So she asked how they would know and they said the would send an inspector around and take the cat if it was outside.

So my wife stormed out with a crying kid in tow.

Maybe you've seen her picture on the wall at the local Humane Society?

In this town, the Humane Society will spay a cat at a reduced rate for my mother. Apparently when you hit your 90's they will give a discount to have your cat spayed. Aside from that, I've never heard of a damn thing they have done to help a situation.

MeAgain, that is horrible what they have done to your family. It is like they already have trick questions prepared and no matter what the answer is, you're screwed. Except of course, when attempting to adopt you now know to say the cat will be ONLY inside.

I'd probably to go facebook and tell about all the "help" they have given if it was me. [IMG] It sounds like you won't be missing any help they give (others).

Lynn, Princess and Mr. Tips are beautiful.

My feral, Meesie, had a litter last week. I haven't seen them. I hadn't seen her for several days but hubby said he saw her last night.

    Damn.

I'm sorry you've had that crappy luck with them.

I take mine to low cost spay/neuter mobile units.

Mabon is in the cat crate recovering.

They said she did have the condition Hydrometra - accumulation of excess fluid in the uterus caused by repeated heat cycles and hormones.

That had caused the weight loss and hair loss so she should really begin to look like a healthy cat again.

    i feel terrible.

I trapped one of the pregnant feral mothers and will take her to animal control in the morning. We've called her "Mystic" for a couple of years.

I have never done this but it's pure insanity with cats at my house.

I have 13 indoors, all fixed.

    I have 2 outdoors, fixed.

Meesie had a litter last week. She's feral.

The one I trapped is the mother of several of the cats I have indoors.

There is another pregnant feral, we call Coon Tail, that I will probably trap tomorrow evening and take in on Saturday morning.

    I'm sick about it.

I've cried about it and will cry some more about it.

My heart is breaking but there's nothing else to do.

I have 5 more young adults outside. Two are male for sure.

I want to keep and spay/neuter 4 of them.

Lastly, there's the big Tom that keeps getting his face gashed open and his ears torn off. I don't know where he came from but he fathered more than half the cats I have.I can trap him and take him in, out of mercy.

Sick. I'm just sick about it all.

Edit -In all, I have 23 cats I take care of inside and outside of my house; not counting the new litter born last week and not counting that big Tom cat.

I know it has to stop-

    Doesn't make it easier.

Edit - I feel like the worst person in the world.

    I couldn't do it.

    I let her go.

I will try to trap her again when the kittens are weaned, or during the Winter, so I can take her in for spaying.

You did the right thing Aeri.

When both your heart and your gut tell you not to do something, and it just makes you sick inside - its better not to do it. I know you have lots of cats and its a tremendous amount of work (and food) but I think sometimes we are placed in situations to see if we will try to help (the situation) or just end it.

    You are helping. :)

    Thanks Lynn!

I put myself to the test and I know more about who I am, for sure.

Sweet Mystic ate a few minutes after I freed her and she was back this morning. She isn't mad and she still depends on and trusts me.

The problem with cats is that they multiply.

When you feed one or two strays they end up turning into many many stays. It's like compound interest. So do you help one or two cats and then end up with a snowballing effect whereas many cats end up needing help, or do let that one cat fend for itself and possibly die ending up with mother nature pruning the flock and less cats that need help later on.

It's a tough one..you can only help so many cats. (Unless you get them fixed).

I must have either miscalculated when Princess got pregnant or...she isn't pregnant. BUT I find that almost impossible to believe because I KNOW what an "in heat" female acts like. There were 2 toms watching her at all times, and watching each other for about 2 weeks. For both of those toms to be worrying about her, doesn't that sound like she was in heat?! Anyway, I can't believe she hasn't had those kittens yet.

I keep waiting for her to have the kittens to make the appointment to get her fixed. I might need to go into counseling if I find out she isn't pregnant and is fixed already. :dizzy2:

Mr. Tips will be fixed also. (That is, if he hasn't also fooled me and is already neutered.) I've been waiting to call about both of them at the same time, even though I really don't want them fixed at the same time. Each one will have to be looked after/nursed for a little bit after this. So of course, I want to "nurse" each one separately.

I had to come and report this.

This IS the Twilight Zone, even for the animals.

She looks pregnant. What has the size of her belly done? She may have had them and may be hiding them from you.

I'm trying olive oil on the mats in Bane's fur.

I read rave reviews about how good it works.

Right now, he looks like a mess but the mats are supposed to "fall out" in 24 hrs. to a week.
