Legal workers easily make 10 times as much with regular jobs. Roofers etc make easy 10 times as much as a roofer in Guatemala etc. And they are cheaper than American roofers by a lot.

They we're desperately needed in Houston to rebuild after Harvey. They all made bank.

Did you word that like that to go along with NotMyRealName's perspective or do you actually think the majority of Americans on welfare/making use of government aid are liberals?

It might be more practical for some of them to stay in Mexico because the language is easier for sure. But, I don't know anything about our Southern brothers and sisters' economy. As far as jobs it's hard to say they would find the work/payload that they would no doubt experience in the United States. So it's probably not the land of opportunity some of them hoped for. At least they will be safer, but it's still kind of sad.

I've never been there. My family took me on a Carnival Cruise to Mexico one Easter break in 1998. We went to Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, and then skipped Cabo San Lucas. I was impressed by the level of poverty. I was not prepared for the difference at all! It's like they really need your help. Everyone begs at the boat landings... I remember they were trying to sell chiclets (gum) for like $.05 or something. The impression is that they don't have anything at all. I don't know how true it is, but it was sad. You couldn't help but believe them.

I've been to over 20 third world countries and some European ones. The poverty is real. You have no idea what poverty is until you need to take a … well … use the public bathroom in a place like Libya or Egypt or Nigeria.

Why would the rights given under international law not apply to them? They are suing to defend their right to apply for asylum and to be given minimum due process and protections guaranteed by the Flores Agreement for humane treatment. If the courts don't agree with their claims, they'll lose. They may not have standing to sue yet, because they're so far from the U.S. border. Most of them, possibly all of them, can expect ultimately to be turned away. If by "the libs" you mean Nexus Derechos Humanas Attorneys, Inc., yes they're getting help from them. But the firm is being investigated by the attorneys general of three states for possibly exploiting the immigrants, since its Libre subsidiary sells them bail bonds under terms which may be questionable..

    It's also U.S. law.
    American Immigration Council
How does seeking asylum work at the US border?
    8 U.S. Code § 1158 - Asylum

But Trump doesn't care about the law unless it serves him.

Why are they carrying a Honduran flag? Maybe because they're Hondurans? That would be my guess. You were expecting maybe an American flag? But they're not Americans. If they were carrying an American flag, your byline would probably read: "Why are they carrying an American flag when they're not even Americans?" Why are they "predominantly military aged men"? I dunno. Maybe because they're the ones who are best able to stand the long trek? If you scan farther back in the line, you see women and children. And there have been multiple caravans--three at last count--with different gender ratios. Where and when was the photo taken? And why are you asking the question? They may not have legitimate claims for asylum, in which case presumably they'll be sent back home.

First of all they are Americans.
Honduras is in Central America, the United States is in North America.

They're not Citizens of the United States of America, but they are Americans.

Second of all, from my understanding, the men travel on the outside of the crowd to protect the weaker members in the inside. This is typical group behavior.

Visiting historic places mostly. I went to school in Malta. It's a beautiful island 63 miles south of Sicily and 60 miles north of Tunisia. It is right in the middle of the Mediterranean sea. The people are Catholic and the place is full of historic cathedrals and bastions. Libya has Roman/Greek/Vandal ruins along its coastline. Tunisia has lots of Carthaginian history.

Republicans are unfit to govern. All People have a right to apply to enter the USA, to visit, to work, to live, or to ask for help! That's international law!

  18. I have!

One thing I wonder though is that if that old canard about Arabs wiping their ass with their bare naked left hand was actually true, why are all the water nozzles on the right side of the toilet, way out of reach of the left hand???????? It makes no sense (like most bigoted humor).

I had to write a set of procedures for a refinery and the project managers just handed me the responsibility list and said make a procedure for each item. The restrooms were on the list. So I wrote a procedure, on how to use the restrooms. Then I ran it through document control who barely glanced at it since I was foisting dozens of documents onto them already (with very few errors). It wasn't until the entire project was being handed over that the restroom procedure finally saw the light of day. In a conference room, surrounded by wealth, power and pissed off managers.

    Life was good back then!

  19. There's actually an international "law" that demands the US throw the gates open and admit any and all? Oh do please post a link to this statute.
