my one kid painted his vanagon blue with a roller brush. it actually came out nice, not smooth, but nice. i sugest that you do not paint your bus with hippie grafiti, because you will regret it, probably right after youre done. its not really a good idea. now if youre a good artist, and you take along time planning what you are going to paint, and your patient with it, you can make something nice, but i wouldnt do the hippie grafitti thing. its not really smart, or cool. body work really isnt that hard to do, and once you have everything smooth, maaco will paint it for 500 bux any color you want.
Hey, man, I think it's kinda mean to tell me what's cool and what's not, especially because your opinion of cool may not match mine. Anyway, I am a grafitti artist, so I figured that anything I did would be decent. And as for Maaco, every car I've ever seen that was painted there ended up chipping and gross a year or two later. Thanks, but no thanks.
There is this really awesome bar in St. Louis called the Venice Cafe. Anyway they have a truck for the bar that is mosaiced with bits of tile and bits of mirror and all kinds of bric a brack. it is also painted in places by a local artist names Wayn St. Wayne. His stuff is awesome. I really liked the mosaic idea though. The walls and floor of the bar are all mosaiced also.
my 69 westy is dark metallic blue. i need some body work done. and after that all the paint is coming off. and shes gonna be primmed and like as many people i deem fit will paint varous sections what ever they want. its going to be cosmic in answer to your question. do it dude. it dont matter if its a vanagon. cops follow you fuck them man. i have never been pulled over, harassed and followed way to close yes. but never pulled over. i dont even know how fast i go i just go until it seems right peace
That truck seems cool! Wow, I kinda wanna see it now. And good for you, Sef. A friend of mine painted each of the panels a different color of the rainbow on his Westy. It was cool... Uh, until the paint cracked (he just used plain old spraypaint and left it out in the sun every day). Sorry you don't have a car, Amanda (is that your name? I'm assuming. If not, you're officially called Amanda). I didn't get my license until I had a car, and that was like a year later than all of my friends (you can get a license at 15 in SC). Damned stuff.
I know I shouldn't worry so much about what other people think but I do. I really want to paint my car. The paint is chipping off all over it. Last weekend I added some big flowers to the back and put a big sunflower in a vase on the dash board. So far no one at work as said anything to me about it. Maybe I'll just add a little bit at a time. That bus is pretty cool. It's not the one I saw though. The one I saw had a big mushroom on the side doors. I'll see if I can find it. Kathi
Kathi, teach your children well and go for it. I'm a reporter in a very GOP area, although I've found the stream of Dems and greens, etc, and I have two stickers so far (new to me car, 1 year) If you want to wear fur stop shaving (to which i added 'I did' with a sharpie) and Forsake thy inhibitions and pursue thy dreams. I found a "pocket" for stickers, so I could be somewhat subtle and still have a rotating selection of comments, and could hand over a sticker if someone really loved one--it would still have its backing.
and for anyone else, two words: Art Car. I've seen some doozies.. I remember a tele documentary with a car covered in indoor/outdoor carpet with flowers "sown " through it.
I have to comment on the hippie graffiti. As a proud owner of a 72 Volkswagen Camper and member of a vw bus club I have to say that a large percentage of vw camper or bus owners totally hippify their paint jobs. They don't care if it's a professional job or not. They just want to express themselves in whatever way it comes out in paint. Just be yourself and do whatever floats your boat it's your ride and you're the one whose going to enjoy it.
that van is the coolest. i understand about the understated car that doesn't get pulled over, though. i have a honda civic and i never get pulled over, unlike when i had an old beetle and bus...
our good friend sam-i-am painted our truck for us one weekend - he used spray paint & a lighter or cardboard to get different effects on the planets, different sized cans & coins - the pictures don't do it justice, it was pretty amazing. then my hubby jb-welded a gargoyle to the roof, just cuz he's that kinda guy. THEN we took it out to the mud hole and played - nobody took any notice of it really cuz they've all kinda come to expect that type of thing from my hubby. We never got pulled over in the truck at all, but we were aware that it was 'probable cause' for a search if we ever did. don't ever carry anything in your vehicle anyways, that's just askin for trouble. during the regan regime they passed a law that a grateful dead sticker was probable cause for a stop-n-search... I'd say go ahead and have fun with it, you can always repaint it again later. Here's a couple of pics, one kinda clean truck and one after we went mud boggin for the day lots of fun for the kids too
