Captain America: The Winter Soldier Movie Blurb by Shale April 5, 2014 I was going to see this movie yesterday. In fact I biked 5 miles to the Intracoastal Theatre in North Miami Beach for the 1 p.m. showing just to discover that the theater is closed. IDK for how long; if it is for renovations or if it went belly up but I had to put off seeing it since the Regal South Beach was 10 miles away from there. Anyhow, I got to see it today and it was really good. One of the best Marvel superhero flicks to date (OK, maybe X-Men: First Class is a tie). I am not alone in this opinion since 89% of the aggregate critics on Rottentomatoes liked it and 95% of audiences did as well. That's about all I will be able to tell you about the movie because you really should see the story unfold in real time and I don't want to spoil that for you. There are flashbacks and references that span the whole 70 years of Captain America's existence - really flesh him out as a person in the 21st Century who maintains that good-guy code of honor that is so annoyingly naive to our cynical sensitivities. Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) is still working for S.H.I.E.L.D. and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) in their office in Washington D.C. While leading a mission to rescue hostages on a S.H.I.E.L.D. ship, Cap discovers his fellow agent Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) has orders to download info from the ships computers that he was not aware. This break in the chain of command sorta pisses him off. Natasha & Cap at Odds Again, you can see the conflict Captain America has with the normal subterfuge of S.H.I.E.L.D. and its spy agents. But, all this is because there are problems within S.H.I.E.L.D. that Nick Fury is trying to uncover. It turns out this is a political/spy thriller that also happens to be an action flick with Captain America. Cap & Nick Fury at Odds As you can imagine, Captain America is a man out of time. There are no ppl from his era with whom he can relate, so he absorbs himself in his duties. He does however strike up a friendship with Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) a former combat paratrooper trained in aerial combat. Sam has much the same values as Captain America and uses his special skills in an aerial combat wingpack to join the team. Sam Wilson (Falcon) Eventually, with all the conspiracy things going on, Captain America, Nick Fury and Natasha are targeted by S.H.I.E.L.D. leaders and are on the run. Besides all the agents in great car chases going after them is a very formidable assassin known as the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), who is pretty much a match for Captain America in hand-to-hand. (Especially since his left hand and arm is cyborgenic). Cap Confronts The Winter Soldier That's as far as I will take you. If you are into these Marvel movies you don't need me to tell you to go see this one - you likely already have. It was a treat. And remember, this is a Marvel movie - stay during the end credits for a final scene. There is one almost immediately after the main stars are named, then another at the very end.
