You are describing American capitalism. I'm surprised you associate even that bad aspect of capitalism to socialism. Trump's tax plans overwhelmingly benefit the rich. What tax they pay often gets them more in write offs because they are such important parts of the economy. Paying tax can be profitable in some cases. Because people like you who will never 1/100th that rich worship them and the idea so much they can do whatever they want.

Capitalism has ideas rooted in Monarchism. Society must have a class system it's natural. And the members of the upper class have earned it so they are to be respected. Most people have little or nothing because a good Christian (or American) well deal with struggles. One must work to overcome them and not commit the sin of envy for those god has blessed.

You can't do that under socialism. Corruption is possible but to the extent of America no.

Question: If capitalism is such a bad thing, why are so many people desperate to get out of Marxist Venezuela and into capitalist America? And why are so few people fleeing capitalist America to get into Marxist Venezuela?

As a Brit, I spent a large chunk of my life watching people trying to get out from countries behind the iron curtain, but very few trying to get in. Even China has quietly shifted from being a communist dictatorship to a vaguely capitalist dictatorship. So why do you think that introducing Marxism into America, destroying incentives and sliding into the poverty experienced by most Marxist countries is a good thing?

Who, exactly, is trying to "introduce Marxism into America"?

The homeless problem in America shows the failure of free-market capitalism. The U.S. has the highest poverty rate of all the developed nations and a huge and growing disparity between the rich and poor. Those are the result of deregulation beginning in the 1980s with Reagonomics and continuing today. That's also when deficits exploded causing our country to be approaching $30 trillion in debt.

Free market capitalism fails every time. Well regulated capitalism works extremely well for most things; socialism works well for other things, like the military, parks, schools, fire depts...

Capitalism was hijacked by Ronald Reagan and perverted into a Kleptocracy ran by the 1%, Wall Street and Special Interests.

    That is changing .
In a Generation, Americans will stear Capitalism into a more equitable system thru Democracy .
The American Kleptocratic Oligarchs are no match for the Majority of American people.
J6 was the first of many defeats that they will face .... and more is coming .

The GOP have been the Father's of AmeriKKKan Austerity, stagnated wages and declared war on the Middle Class ( now the Working Poor ) and the Poor .

From 1981 to 1993, Reagan Republicans stagnated wages and taxed Social Security to Bank Roll the tax cuts for the American Oligachs .
    The minimum wage was $ 3.35 from 81 to 93 .
Here is an inflation calculator , type in 1981 and $ 3.35 and it will convert it to 2023 US Dollars .

In today's world, you have to make $ 19.00 + US Dollars to be at least two pay checks away from eviction, starvation or face some form of personal financial crisis .

Inflation Calculator | Find US Dollar's Value From 1913-2023

    $ 3.35 USD in 1981 converted to $ 11.21 USD in 2023 .
Proof, Conservatism failed Anerica, like Communism failed the Soviet Union .

Many Red Republican States, minimum wage is only $ 7.25 to $ 8.00 an hour, and it is far short of $ 11.21 an hour . People are drowning in poverty in the South, Midwest and Central California.

Here in WA state the minimum wage is near $16.00 per hour… and people earning that level are not rolling in cash. I wonder what it will take to help the millions of people who have contributed to making the rich richer realize they have been bamboozled? The wealth inequality in the US is an international disgrace. Every time I hear another R red herring I want to puke. I was dumbfounded in the early 1980s when in my job as an economist the distribution of income as indicated by the Gini coefficients made an abrupt U turn…and millions though RR was equivalent to Mother Theresa. I guess propaganda and snake oil salesmen work.

Convincing people to continue to buy more and more and more, which is based on using up the worlds resources and to convert them into the plastic crap that is somehow thought necessary for a great life ,is obviously not a sustainable , long term situation. One obvious problem that this is causing is the denial of the changing and dangerous weather patterns that "those who rule and those for whom the deleterious effects of said weather changes mean slowing or eliminating the human causes -and the HUGE PROFITS they make---are anathema. The solutions mean taking money away from those who profit by continuing the denials..That's one problem with capitalism--and it's going to get more severe as time goes by. Another is that the critters and diseases that have lived in the southern climes for eons and affect we humans , are now moving farther north as the earth heats.

Another problem IMO, is the cost and purpose of education. Some countries have "free " education. Their citizens are willing to pay the taxes that provide such. That makes for an educated populace that allows them to make good choices for their government. They do not fall for the bullshit that reigns supreme here in US. Same with medical care. They are willing to look at it as --we are all in this together --rather than every man , woman and child are on their own. People go broke and / or bankrupt here form the exorbitant medical prices here. They are well adjusted, happy people in places like Denmark and the other Scandinavian countries.

So I could address many other issues, but those are enough for starters. A combination of benevolent socialism mixed with some capitalism would seem to work--if--IF--some major changes were made here regarding inclusion of all citizens , education for all who want it, a major change in buying habits , changes in recycling habits, and leashes on the most greedy of our citizens. Ok--to me--those are a start.

BUT--I must add that to make ANY changes that make sense for the long term--republicans and their non solutions ---need to be GONE. This upcoming vote for the soul of our nation--is the MOST IMPORTANT EVER IN OUR HISTORY.
