Some of them are really hard to read, are they that worried that machines have become so good at reading these things that they have to make them to where it's almost impossible for a human to read? I mean, seriously, sometimes they are seriously unintelligible.

you can usually hit refresh and get a new one though.

also, i heard somewhere that some captchas are one word that is known and easy to read, and one word that is lifted from an old document that is unreadable by a not. so by solving the captcha, you are actually helping to archive some old piece of text on the internet.

    thought that was pretty cool

I would like to know the origin of the word "capchca" and when it was first used.

Odon, get on this one, please.

    Isn't it "captcha"?

I've got a whole bunch on my forum (well integrated, and not just reading ones - they're mostly invisible to humans).

Recaptcha is one of the ones I use and that can be seriously hard to read at times lol

They usually have little reload buttons though to get a new one if you can't read it.

How do you actually say the word captcha? I'm not even sure exactly how to spell it but I know what it is.
