I’m suddenly reminded of the Stephen King short story survivor type in which this guy is stranded on a deserted isle, and when he runs out of food he slowly begins to cut off various body parts and eats them in order to survive

This thread is making me ill. Eating humans really is a little insensitive

those who believe it is fine obviously haven't considered someone else actually eating them instead.

In content, it is the same paranoia, just in form, the intensity is greater or lesser.

How about if bodies were reduced to bone meal and dried blood and then used as fertilizers, to grow crops.

Certainly a better use for them - but would it count as a kind of second-hand canabalism - kind of the wheat that made that bread you're eating was grown with the aid of dead bodies ?

I wouldn't think it any worse than that fish you're eating having fed on a drowned body.

Forensic pathology on the remains of early man show little evidence of cannibalism in africa or on any other continent.

Apparently early man instinctively understood just how easy it would be to slip into the habit of killing the sick and injured among them, and refused knowing it ultimately lead to anarchy and suicide for their way of life

Actually in the past cannibalism was practiced in west and central Africa.
Cannibalism has been practiced on all continents at one time or another.

Of course cannibalism existed in the past

But the widely held belief that man was a regular food staple has been debunked.

And cannibalism will occur again. During world war ll the Danak people of Borneo were encouraged by local officials to take up again, their tradition of headhunting, and the subsequent shrinking of those heads, as a way to get them involved in combating the Japanese.
As far as I know, there is no widely held belief that man was a regular food staple for man not has one been posited here, except by you. Cannibalism, as far as I can see, has always been demonstrated to be an exceptional practice and not the rule.

Actually; back in 1970s most archeologists and paleontologists were under the impression that early man were cannibalistic savages; until it was proven that most of the bite marks and serrations observed on human fossils were in fact the result of small scavengers who collected the bones and piled them up in caves [IMG]
