In 1980 when living in London, I bought a 14day unlimited rail ticket for the UK. The first journey I made was from Euston - Inverness. I decided to have a meal on the train. Roast beef if I remember. Edible but nothing special. The apple-pie served afterwards was still half frozen. To get a sleeper was an extra £5 - about the cost a single LP at the time. In those days Euston- Glasgow was 5 hours; Euston -Inverness was 10hrs15minutes. One of the pleasant surprises was the journey from Inverness to Aberdeen. I for one thought it was scenic. When the train crossed over the Forth Bridge, I lived every moment of it. I can see how people from Scotland are proud of it. Forth Bridge - Wikipedia
