sitting here wondering how do i go about finding a family doctor.

you ask friends if they like their doctor....then you phone and ask if they are accepting patients....pick one that's young....you want the latest in teaching

personally all I did was open the yellow pages and start calling allof them.....was easy

 

thats what i did to find the last doctor that i saw, the thing is that the place my friends said was a good place to go to...they have several doctors there. and being i didnt know any of them they just hooked me up with one. and this guy was a fucking absolute moron. i literally think i would have been better off using yahoo's question and answer section to get more accurate medical advice. now i am not giving up on the medical center but now i feel weird going back there after i refuse to see this particular doctor. to me its worse than bumping into an ex girlfriend if i have to go back to that place and see him when i am going to see a different doctor.

 

I gotta find a Doc too... Many are not accepting new patients or won't take your insurance.

 

when i was preggo with my twins, the ob/gyn i saw liked to make sure every patient saw every doctor, because who will be there when its go time? MY doctor (who saved my life) is young, one of the other doctors came in, looked down at his folder and asked if we were there to talk about fetal reduction. i refused to see that doctor again. fuck him, that shits not funny.

if a doc is incompetent, you dont have to feel bad for not seeing him. you dont have to feel awkward. in fact, be glad that you are aware enough to know what you expect from a doctor. our current doctor is nice, tries to figure out what is wrong instead of throwing pills at a problem, but its too far away, and we have had no answers yet. so we will be looking for a doc close to home.

 

You should not feel the least bit weird about changing doctors. It is your body and your health. I was very displeased with a doctor in the clinic I go to and I changed to another doctor at the same place. I have been with her for the last 20 years now.

Ask your friends again if they see a particular doctor and how they like him or her. Unfortunately just because they like someone it does not mean you will but your chances are better. Tyrsonswood is correct that it is difficult to find doctors that are accepting patients. When I moved here 23 years ago I tried to get my sister's doctor and at that time she was not accepting patients.

I tend to want a doctor my age or younger on the chances that I will die before they will. Obviously people die at any age but I would rather take my chances on someone younger not to mention they probably are more up to date on progress and changes in medicine.

If you end up needing to change doctors again, just do that. It is important that the doctor is a good fit for you.

Edit: You pay doctors a lot of money for their services. You have every right to expect them to answer all your questions. You have every right to expect excellence.

 

it is completely strange to me to hear that doctors are not excepting new patients. i have never heard of such a thing...although i havnt seen my original family doctor in about 25 years or more.
thanks to all the advice about saying fuck off to this quack that i was originally set up with. the more i think about it the more i know he was not for me. hell even if i was confronted with him face to face i could tell him all the things he fucked up. i hate to say it but i am starting to think like pressed rat. i think that he just gave me a lot of the tests that he did so that other doctors could make money. even when it was clear that the tests that he gave me were not related to the symptoms that i had.
