I love you Cate! If it makes you feel any better, I'll stop. This argument has been wonderful...I have learned a lot...and I apologize for any hard feelings...
http://www.cis.org/ - center for immigration studies i've been jumping around that cite periodically...good stuff
There will never be a system if you keep on antogonizing immigrants. There will always be some sort of excuse. And as I said, you don't seem to understand that there is no such thing as a "wrong way". There is no other way for most of them. And as I said, they don't really cause a problem. Your economy would collapse without them. It's that simple.
lol no dont stop! I dont care I was just sent that video and thought it would be funny to share here.
Yeah, it has been a fun arguments. I got to generalize Americans and even slip a reference about Americans being racist Plus, I do feel strongly about my position, and it's fun to argue about it. It also helps me structure my argument and kinda verbalize it.
And I have to say, I wouldn't wanna be called a racist by anyone but you! haha I'm way too tired to even exist right now
I should be sleeping. Although this couch feels too good to move. Maybe this will be where I pass out tonight-and regret it in the morning..hmmm...decisions....
Vitriolic? I seem to have missed the fireworks. I'm a little hesitant in joining this thread but...I may have one thing to add to the discussion: The U.S. - through IMF and World Bank lackeys - enforces a global economy which guarantees Third World countries remain dependent and makes immigration a necessity. Any change in the direction of independence in the Third World is immediately halted by Wall Street dumping that country's currency as a hegemonic tactic. So...we have two systemic problems at work here --- 1) U.S. foreign policy; 2) an economy that exploits cheap illegal labor in much greater proportions than illegals exploit the economy; It doesn't matter that people personalize their frustration and get red in the face complaining about individuals. All of it is utterly futile until systemic change is brought about. All nationalistic fury is just an exercise in futility otherwise. It's interesting that lovelyxmalia finds a convenient target in illegal immigrants to vent her frustrations while leaving the employers which are responsible for that illegal labor second in her list of nationalistic priorities.
the only thing i find truly irritating about (-some-) immigrants is when they refuse to put forth any effort to learn one of our languages. preferably english, since only quebec makes true use of french save for smaller francophone communities that are scattered throughout canada. but, the few that come into work and cant speak english bring their kids as translators so generally im 'meh'
Explain how you came to the conclusion their inability to learn english comes down to refusal? Can you think of other barriers to assimilation other than stubborness or laziness?
