And no one is wrong. I feel strongly about this topic because I see these things happen regularly...a lot of us do, but we don't realize it.

I respect each opinion in here. I'm very big on fairness for every person in this world! Not just singling this country out. Abolishing slavery, allowing immigration, the steps we're still taking to treat everyone equal in America...that's what fairness is...maybe something should be put into place to help speed up legal immigration...but is that a priority for the US government? No way!

I think you idea about assimilating into society is fine.

When I am in other countries I speak their language or learn it.

I also observe local customs.

I do not think any of the intensity is directed at you.

but this country is more interested in nation building outside the US, where it should be focused on nation building inside the US

 

You can have a thousand idiots with guns sitting on the boarder, but the immigrants will still somehow magically get in, just like the drugs magically get in.

But yes, you're right. This country is dooming itself by ignoring itself. Such a funny paradox.

 

and THAT is the main problem. We play "hero" for everyone else when we have these issues with illegal immigrants, the threat of a recession, etc.

I have a feeling some of these illegal immigrants are taking advantage of sneaking in-from all over-because America is vulnerable due to the fact that we are too busy fixing everyone elses problems and ignoring our own.

Immigration is oft discouraged by xenophobia.

Certainly we can't let in everybody all at once. Nobody's suggesting that.

I am suggesting that the reason that immigration is so heavily encouraged is the fact that the work is clearly needed. Immigrants are clearly willing to do the labor. And assimilating completly doesn't happen over night.

It takes a couple generations. To suggest that your society isn't strong enough to handle that, doesn't say a lot about the society you say you're trying to protect by encouaraging stict immigration policies.

 

With an issue like immigration there is no way to keep the peace.

People have strong opinions.

I don't know where you got this antagonizing view of illegal immigrants.

Most of them send half of their bloody paycheck back to Mexico just to feed their family.

I'm not saying all of them are good people, but honestly... they're people. They aren't evil, and they're not trying to take advantage of your precious America.

 

And not everybody comes in illegally by hoping the border. A much larger percentage overstay work visas.

Because we want their work!

And I'm not saying they're all evil. However, they call it illegal immigrant for a reason. My uncle was considered an illegal immigrant before he went back to Italy. He went through everything he had to and was just waiting for an answer. Then, he got married and moved back to Italy. And my opinion doesn't change for him, either. He was considered an illegal immigrant.

 

...and black people used to be considered inferior.
...people who smoke pot are considered to be criminals.
...women, such as yourself, used to not be able to get a job.

But society makes progress. Your mentality prevents such progress. They will never become legal as long as people keep on insisting on calling them illegal and stereotyping them based on that.

When there is a system in place to help legalizing the citizenship of these people quicker...then yes...I'll be for it. In the meantime, they are illegal immigrants. I'm not hindering any progress in society...I'm not saying they should all be shot as soon as they cross the border/get off the plane/their work visa ran up/whatever the case may be...I'm saying that until that time...these loose regulations are going to keep this going.

And I understand and stated earlier that there has been a lot of progress when it comes to minorities, etc. There is a place for these people to become citizens...it's just getting them to that point...which I understand, is merely impossible.

And I will stress this point again....I don't think they are all bad. I don't think they are all here for no reason...majority of them are here to accomplish goals, chase dreams, etc. However, they are doing this in the wrong way. And I'm not only speaking of Mexicans, I'm speaking of all immigrants. It seems...in my area anyway...that they cause more problems then they do any good...when it comes to college, taxes, work, etc.

And yes, lode, in 1978, before I was even a mere thought, I threatened to call le Migra on my uncle.
