"We" didn't steal "their" land. Settlers conquered a country and took over the land that was previously the territory of the natives. We're the products of what happened. No one living had anything to do with it.
I'm not getting into this, this is my opinion. Thanks for your insight. I've NEVER heard that before.
Cate. I've been thinking about your questions for a while. There is no Canadian culture. The closest thing is multiculturalism. But the acceptance of other cultures is not a culture in itself. You, as a lady in the big smoke, have more in common with a New Yorker than you do with a Newfie.
-CFL is apart of our culture, unfortunately thanks to the jack-offs in Southern Ontario, the NFL is pushing in more and more. Yeah fuck the NFL, CFL is so much better.
I've never actually heard anyone say "aboot", we probably say it closer to "aboot" than "abaot" but not like the way Bob and Doug McKenzie do it (ya hoser). Canadian culture is what what created within Canada and is automatically identified with Canada. I.e. the cold, hockey, CFL, Winterlude, CN Tower, Maple Leaf, Neil Young, Rush, BTO, The Guess Who, April Wine, Five Man Electrical Band(from Ottawa too..for anyone who doesn't know their hit song, it's "Signs" check it out), Steppenwolf, Tom Cochrane and many more. Actors like Mike Myers, John Candy, Jim Carrey, oh man so many.
never say aboot out east ..but then again rarely speak english here either ...but you know someone has been working in alberta or saskatchewan when they sprinkle the conversation with "you bet"or "you betcha"
