Texas chose to have an independent power system, free of 'big gubmint' regulation. Without Federal regulations, they had the freedumb to maintain their power grid as they saw fit; which in practice meant on par with North Korea, with no governmental overreach by the 'nanny state' to compel them to winterize their equipment, and the 'rugged individualism' to be free of reliance on the national power grid in emergencies. Interesting how all that brave seditious talk of secession didn't stop Abbott from going hat-in-hand to Washington D.C. to beg for FEMA money.
It's gonna be interesting to see what Texans think of unfettered free market Capitalism and government regulation when everyone gets their power bill next month.

Homes/condos/apartments in Texas are not built for this weather. The Home Depot stores would not have enough kerosene heaters to supply every home in Texas to keep them heated enough to stop pipes from bursting. Nobody there has winter tires on their cars, so they can safely get to a store to buy water and emergency supplies... hell, they can't even clear and prep the roads to make them somewhat safe to drive on because they don't have the equipment to do so.

Texas has similar demographics to the rest of the country, with a large rural population and cities that are increasingly filled with people born outside the state. Its sort of similar to a banana republic, with peasants surrounding the golden seats of power in shanty towns, but these are sometimes wealthy peasants who own cattle. Rednecks will just break out their generators, and laugh at the idiots who think they run the country, when its obvious Donald Duck is dictator for life!

I know people who go out of their way to drive all the way around the entire state of Texas, rather than go through, and many consider Texas to have become a mass casualty long ago.

 

I wonder if it would have been better if the North lost the Civil War. What if there was a country that is exactly what Republicans want would that make it easier for America to be more European with their social welfare and infrastructure.

The Confederacy did not outlaw slavery until the 1950's. They didn't really see the point even then but the woke mob made them. Most are poor, no one goes to school all that does is make you communist, and few if any international commerce happens there because wants that, It's against the law to not be Christian, and you can own any weapon you want including a nuke if you could afford it. No environmental laws because those hurt business. We love our job creators in Confederate land. No taxes for anyone for any reason of course. But overall they are happy because it's everything they want. No laws against racism, No welfare, no racial diversity. Just Caucasians speaking English and reading their bible. No matter how hard their life is they can look at the north and be proud they don't have to think of other people of deal with the "forced diversity" of left wing thinking. I mean in America they are allowed to have any religion they want! That is not what the founding fathers wanted. At least here in the Confederacy they keep the idea of a Christian nation alive.

Republicans are pretty clear they don't believe in a democratic process anymore. The words "king" and "dictator" are thrown around often in those circles as good things as long as it's their guy. Fascists believe fair elections and free press allow the bad element of society to rule. It's only with a strong leader and one way of thinking that a country is ever "great". They have spent the last decade hating freedom and espeicly the last 5 years.

I don't think it's possible to save the party. I believe they will continue to exist as a fascist party and that for every inch given they will take a mile and claim to be victims. Fascism is counter to democracy and Americans have no obligation to compromise with them. Doing so would make the sacrifices of veterans meaningless.

A 3rd party needs to form with rational right wing views if conservative thinking wants to survive in America. For that to happen I see some sort of armed conflict. Right now the militias are planning. The military has shown to not be on their side and they has made them nervous. But not so nervous they are not willing to move on to other plans. In their eyes a war of several years will happen when before they assumed Jan 6 would happen and by Feb 6. Trump is sworn in again.

 

Better for fascists , racists and authoritarian types if the south had prevailed. As you seemingly indicate (but pardon my assumption--the civil war has never ended). I personally just DON'T like conservative thought. Conservatives fight against any and all change and have always managed to convince SOME people that their ideas are right. This last election---74 million, at least.

 

The biggest problem I have with racists is not their racism but their dishonesty. If they'd just come out and say that they hate such-and-such minority group and this is why, fine. They can make the case that there are problems with certain groups. I might even agree, but we'd disagree with the cause and how to solve the problem. But they just lie about everything, including their racism, and their lies mainly benefit rich people and large corporations -- not their own interests. It's pathetic.
