There's a premise in the discipline of sociology -- Conflict Theory. Typically a Marxist approach to understanding human nature in society, it says that you in order to enact change there must first be upheaval and revolution.

I think that when we assess the Trump presidency I always line it up within the confines of that theory - there was necessary revolution and literally revolt. We saw people reacting in a unified way against treachery like what happened to George Floyd, and so many other examples that they are difficult to count or remember in immediate - I choose not to remember actually; it's easier to move on that way.

 

There are those on the left and right that wish to take over the state but traditionally the right do it because they have power and wish to protect it from those that might wish to take it away so you get righ wing coups after say a reformist left leaning government gets into power threatening (tax rises for the rich and corporations, or anti-corruption reform or land reform etc).

Revolutionary theory although still around in some parts of the left is not really popular anymore as many lefties have realised that revolutions are difficult to control and so have a tendency to ‘eat their children’ and that is why these days there are more Democratic socialists than Revolutionary ones.

This is a belief/conspiracy theory that is encouraged and spread by right wingers in power to try and discourage people from voting for change – if ‘they’ are all the same then what is the point in even trying to change anything – but is it true?

It can seem so in the US where wealth has worked very hard to have control over the political system. At one time the Republicans was the party of businesses, the middle classes and the wealthy, while the Democrats had the support of the Unions. Nether was especially radical (from the 30’s to the 80’s both followed Keynesian ideas)), and both were capitalistic and both feared communism so both attacked ‘socialist’ ideas, which meant US politics was shifted to the right in the 1950’s. Then to add to that right ward shift wealth used the Republicans to chip away at union power and increase its own. To compete the Democratic Party had to shift to the right to attract some of wealthy’s money (as union wealth declined) this wasn’t hard as it had never been a left wing party it became established as a centre right party as the Republicans started moving even further to the right.

From the 1980’s the Republican Party became increasingly radical, been taken over by increasingly fervent neoliberals and those that saw their position as a right rather than a duty and both of which saw anything to the left of themselves as illegitimate or even dangerous. And this didn’t matter to the wealthy donor as long as the Party gave them their tax cuts.

And now things are changing for the Democrats as progressives on the left of the party are finding they can raise profiles online as well as raising funds from small donors so are not so beholden to the Party machine anymore. This at the same time that progressives are actually suggesting ideas that are about fixing things for the better,

So there always was a difference but that has become even more pronounced as the Republicans look increasingly unhinged.

Leftists seem obsessed with taking away our freedoms and rights. And get this, they even want to confiscate our guns and give the guns to same the gov they complain are fascist and bad. If its not leftists trying to keep me down its rightists. If its not rightists trying to keep me down its leftists. Leftists say they only want our assault rifles and more gun control. Gun control=less guns available to minorities since a lot of trans people have a history of mental illness, and poor people have a history of committing crimes. Meanwhile rightists seem pro freedom and pro freedom of speech, unfortunately this means that people have more freedom to discriminate trans people, and that corporations have more freedom to oppress poor people.

Unions may sound good on paper but its can sometimes be a form of tyranny, if you don't obey what they union says they can keep you down. In general america is becoming a capatalist dystopia where getting a job is a brutal competition where you are competiting with hundreds of resumes, corporations spy on you and check if you are a model citizen and browse your social media to see if they agree with all your political views. Not only do you have to be extremely talented, study hard, get a degree and have previous job experience, but also you have to have an ideal model citizen personality which they can arbitrarily discriminate against you for any random reason. Gone are the days of just walking around town, walking into a job and telling them you want to work for them. Now is the boot of corporate dystopia, minority report society where the poor either stay poor or get mountainous college debt, and the rich get richer.

 

I do not agree with Marxism but I think he had the right intention, but his theory was in an alpha/beta state and not fully formed.

Private property is good and needs to be upholded. I believe there is class conflict but not because of an inherent poor/rich divide: I think if the system was different and wasn't formatted such that only the most selfish greedy people succeed in life, then it wouldn't be a problem. That is, I don't think the problem is that some people are owners and some are workers, I think the problem is that the owners tend to be bad people because of the way the system is formatted.

Having some brainfarts atm but here are some examples. For example, stock investment is a zero sum game: In order to profit from stocks, you sell the stocks which makes others holding bags. Then there are hedgefunds, which hire shills to slander companies and rig other companies to fail on purpose, in order to profit from other companies failing. Those are two examples of how it creates a rotten world. There is probably some better mathematical equation we could use for a better system than that.

- Another example, people like Warren Buffet buy out other companies. Then treat the workers like slaves and treat the workers worse than the original company did. And they are rewarded by the world for doing so, and become even richer for doing so. Another example of why the world is rotten.

- Another example, con artists like Tai Lopez make it big. Tai got rich by creating scammy dating sites. Then acts like this is a viable get rich solution for people. This is what I mean by the way the system is formatted.

- Another example, banks pay politicians to rig society against the average american, so that banks steal more money from americans then banks have more money to pay politicians.

- Another example, Apple intentionally makes iphones fail on purpose, planned obsolescence, and are rewarded by consumers for doing so. Society retroactively justifies it by saying "this is good because it makes people have jobs" even if the jobs are low quality, thus reducing the overall quality of life and keeping people in financial enslavement, this is because value is tied to money instead of actual value.

Sorry but I need at this point what you mean by ‘leftists’ because when you describe the US media as ‘leftist’ I’m unsure what you mean, because from my point of view I can’t think of any medium or large media in the US that isn’t capitalist.

This is the problem I mentioned of US politics and society having been pulled to the right to the extent that what in other places would be seen as centre right views are seen as ‘left wing’

Well again many with centre right views also believe in gun control the majority of Americans seem to. As I keep asking why do people feel like they need guns? I seems to me that the ones that say they have them to save the US from tyranny are right wingers who fear that people might elect a government that is not right enough for them. As to minorities getting persecuted do you honestly think bringing guns into such confrontations would bring about a positive outcome?

I’ve always pointed out the contradictions within the anti-government social Darwinist theories that have been heavily promoted by wealth. They seem to ignore the modern world and its complexities and interconnections when it suites their purpose but depend on it when it does, they only want government when it works in their favour.

So if someone loses their money paying job in some urban based industry they seem to argue that there is no need for modern social mechanisms (government) like unemployment assistance, retraining programmes and housing benefits to assist such people - who should defend for themselves - as if they can just go off and club some animals to live off until they get another job – but if such a person clubbed a rich person and used their money to live off then suddenly Social Darwinists want to be defended by government and all the modern social mechanisms of police, courts and prison to stop that from happening.

What I’m saying is that Social Darwinism is a really stupid philosophy and a very bad idea to base dealing with the real world and its often complex problems that affect the majority of people living in a society.

Using south florida where I reside as an example:
every hurricane season every single person in fla has to be prepared to lose all modern convivence's due to a hurricane IF you choose not to prepare at all and get caught off guard who is responsible for taking care of you?
during a particularly bad season we were without power or sewer for 2 weeks it was BRUTALLY hot 90+ with 90% humidity we had to make do and we lived in a developed area , we knew what to expect and prepared.

Now we live in a semi rural area and have no public sewer/water so IF we lose electric we have NO WATER and we live in a reclaimed swamp so our house could literally become an island we stock up on water and have a generator and gas cans we prepare the best we can

 

But using Florida and hurricanes as an example is not the same as Texas and major snowstorms...

You guys can expect hurricanes because it is an area that has them frequently.

Texas does not expect what they are going through right now.
