for silver and gold, ten percent and five percent tolerance respectively. and it was bad for black when i learned it. and yes i have several dozen of them along with an equal number of 1k and 5k 1/4 watt. and .1 mickey farad caps asitors. i used to use a lot of 1k pull ups and the .1 caps for bypass with 5v ttl ic's. so i probably don't need to ask, 'white' (breadbording) boards as they're called.
my recycling seems to consist of mostly empty beer containers and empty energy drink cans ... its a bit of a depressing sight. Black actually is the least significant (oh gee, this is sounding rascist isn't it) value color band for resistors, so it makes sense that black comes first. That IS the name of the color of the band. I've seen even more politically correct mnemonics for reading resistor values such as one that starts of with "Black Bastards ...", but it doesn't make as much sense. Another interesting mnemonic device is "Some Old Hippie Caught Another Hippie Tripping On Acid" ... ______________________________________________________________________________________________________- A book that's older than yourself...or alternatively, a (computer) file that is older than you are.

i wish. gotta go to the store today. my tiny freezer is still full of all it can hold, (mostly prepaired frozen vegie combos and things like that) but bread or baked good of any kind is one thing i'm out of, and my powdered chocklet i'm getting low on too. a cough drop WITHOUT a ton of menthol in it

Yep, in half a second. It's sitting on my desk. A thermometer for taking a human or animal's temperature.
