This is how I was taught.

    The 5th Precept:
"I vow not to abuse substances which cloud the mind, nor to encourage others to do so, but to keep the mind clear."

    The Three Pure Precepts:
"To abstain from all evil, to practice what is good, and to clarify the mind; these are the teachings of all the buddhas."
    Eihei Dogen zenji

Make of that what you will.

Bowling is interesting. One can be lousy at it and still enjoy it.

smoking anything has its own set of problems. there seems to be two types of buddhists -yoga tantrics who do yoga and tantra, and theoretical buddhists who are buddhist through their reasoning it all through. tantrikas are admonished not to smoke because it screws up ones chi, prana, soma, ojas, or whathaveyou. it's counter what one is trying to do. and when you have the actual means for buddhahood and you realize youre blowing your potential with your bad habits then it's an additional level of fucking up. as for thinker, reasoning buddhists, they are only buddhists in thoughts so...welll. i can't spreak to them so who cares.

lsd on the other hand can be good can be bad but either way it's out of control and today you can experience great profound liberation, tomorrow you can be chained into a steel box and screwed by millions of horny rats, really, when you work with mind beyond conceptualization you should maintain high coherence and health. in either case, if you're buddhist but using drugs for your insight then you're only partly buddhist and also partly druggy. someday when recounting your namkhar (enlightenment story) you're going to have to tell about all the dhatura mixed with psychotria and caapi and you're going to raise more doubts than you solve and you are going to serve the plant kingdom not the human bodhisattva kingdom.

because bodhisattvas may use substances because often they are starving and need tea, and charras, and maoi and other substances to get through the day without starving and dying. but in those cases its not about liberation but it's about not dying really.

substances replacing food and pure water is done for a reason - often that reason is to be helped by creation towards your service of others who are bodhisattvas. so laterz and lolz
