I see a lot of people keep referring back to ic.org, but to rummage through a whole list of things not really knowing what you're gonna get seems frustrating and exhausting. I'm looking for personal recommendations, accounts, etc. I'm in NY, but am thinking California would be a nice fit (plus they seem to have mountains of communes). Can you relate back to your experiences, and how would I apply, etc. Thank you! Kali
I live in the Lafayette Morehouse (countryside). Its been a commune since 1968, as has the Oakland Morehouse (city) I've enjoyed living in each of them, I lived in the Oakland Morehouse for about three years, and Lafayette Morehouse for about 6 years so far. We have a whole philosophy of how to live the highest quality lives, and we try to only do things we want to do. We say things like "fun is the goal and love is the way." And we mean it. Its not for everyone. Generally people who want to live with us get to know us first, they come to our parties, hang out with us and usually taking our courses and learning (and applying) our information on communication, relationships, etc. If you are serious about living with us, we offer a two week residential course on how to have fun living in a group that uses a concensus decision making system - ours is called 'one no vote.' There is a ton of information about our group and our lifestyle on the Lafayette Morehouse website.
What type of place are you really looking for? I've spent years at several, but none I would honestly recommend to most people. Sorry, bud. Good luck finding a place you fit at.
