Religeon, trolls everywhere, especially where there's any kind of organization. But I guess thats how society thrives, feeding off each other.

I'm not as resourseful as my friend, he's the one who instigates. I'm usually a follower. I was thinking about kayaks on my walk, I'd like to build one that would get me through the rapids comfortably ( not upside down ). A boat that behaves like a log floating downstream.

Hey Steve, how do I find another thread? You mentioned a "howdy" thread, if I recall right. I tried for a couple of minutes.

Lovelight's back on, Baby, couldn't resist, but I'll be outa here (work) in about five minutes.

Steve, hope all's well with ya, Man, maybe we can break another record here like we did on my intro thread, eh?

As for the river thing, no need to build a kayak that won't flip, you could also build like a catamaran-craft of some sort with two hulls attached together somehow, then it's stable as hell, but you'd need two people to paddle it. I met a guy that had one for sale a while back, his price was pretty damned reasonable, so I hope to catch him again before he sells it, looks like a great craft to take my buddies down the river in, plus there's this huge bulkhead area in both hulls, plenty of room for the grill, gear, and beer (maybe you'd want the non-alcoholic kind)...

hello again....i'm also glad this thread's still going (will check the Howdy thread in a bit) the views you've all expressed on organized religion here I can definitely relate to also. Been there, done that, always searching, but such a deep and personal subject I usually avoid talking about it nowadays, but still think on ideas quite a bit. I was never at all comfortable with the concept of forcing religious views on other people, which seems what a lot of organized religion is about. so anyway, glad you all are brave enough to discuss it, I like to listen in.

I listed catalyst as occupation because my wage paying occupation is boring and not worth mentioning even, and the last few years I have been given opportunities to influence young people in my life. so maybe I meant spiritual catalyst, or something along those lines. I like to think that all of us are catalysts on some level, that we influence others, hopefully in positive ways, and there's always my favorite:

"if I can't be a good example, then let me be a horrible warning" :D

    camper,

I live in Michigan and we have many beautiful campgrounds, but it is snowy and very cold, now, unless you're into hunting or snowmobiling camping trips. Arizona and New Mexico have nice weather in winter, because the deserts cool down to comfortable temperatures. The higher altitiudes, like in northern Arizona (near Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon) are colder, and it can snow.

I have had a vacation to Arizona and New Mexico, plus I attended Arizona State University, from 1973-1974. Although Arizona is sort of conservative, there is partying going on, in some hip areas like Tempe, Mesa and Flagstaff. But only in select parts of these cities. College towns are where the partying usually is. The people in Arizona were very friendly, when I was there at ASU. Maybe it's that "southern/western" hospitality thing? But these are city areas.

Alot of Arizona is desert (mostly the bottom half). My favorite areas for camping would be: SEDONA (a new age, artist colony), THE WHITE MOUNTAINS and the GRAND CANYON. Some campers at the Grand Canyon have reported strange events and sightings, like seeing 12' tall beings and strange humanoids that can run up and down the canyon walls-SOURCE: www.e-newsstore.com/Mysteries-of-the-Grand-Canyon-Rim-7469530.html. I didn't see anything unsual there, but then I didn't camp there. Don't camp too close to the Canyon rim, it's a nice mile drop! To camp at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, I think you need a reservation and/or permission from the HAVASUPAI Native American tribe?

THE SUPERSTITION MOUNTAINS area (just east of Phoenix, AZ) has had strange deaths there, sightings of reptilian-humanoid beings (who have cave entrances to an underground high-tech society), the Lost Dutchman's Mines (find that lost gold!) and the Apache's call it "The Devil's Playground" (Don't go there after dark!) The deaths there were real, though! I don't know about the latter possibilities, though. Not the best camping place, unless you're DARING!

I've never been to THE SUPERSTITION MOUNTAINS, but I've heard weird things about them, from people and mystery websites. For the myths, legends and true stories of The Superstition Mountains, check out: www.burlingtonnews.net/arizonafirstwater.html, plus: www.reptilianagenda.com/exp/e111600b.shtml. It's the wild, wild, weird west! But cool to visit and camp in!

Mt. Shasta is beautiful, simply gorgeous, but in northern California, but has many strange things there and numerous ufo sightings. A big new age area, because of this. Do a YAHOO SEARCH on "Mt. Shasta" and "Telos" and see what I mean! There is some type of underground city there, either "Telos" (a left over high tech city from ancient Lemuria-from 10,000 B.C.) and/or a secret underground military base involved in mind control. A tourist took a picture of a square cave, with energy coming out (as shown later on the original photo) in Mt. Shasta. Some kind of ventilation system! See: www.anomalous-images.com/other.html (Also shows AREA 51/Groom Lake satellite photos!)

I am alot less familar with New Mexico, but the northern half may have better camping sites. In New Mexico, there are piles of mildly-radioactive "uranium tailings" (left over from uranium mining). Bring your Geiger counter! Check those RADS! There is rumored to be an underground military/alien base, north of Dulce, New Mexico, doing genetic experiments. Thousands of websites talk about it. One example: www.anomalous-images.com/text/COSCON34.TXT. Underground DULCE BASE diagram: www.abovetopsecret.com/pages/alternative3.html. Weird crap there too (like cattle mutilations, for genetic material, or "disappearing" people), not a good camp area!

Dulce, New Mexico is close to the Colorado/New Mexico border and on the JICARILLA APACHE INDIAN RESERVATION. ARCHULETA MESA (north of Dulce) is where the top secret military/alien base is. Underground, or course, with seven layers. Natural caverns are there also, called the DULCE CAVERNS. There is no obvious perimeter security, but they supposedly have a high-tech security system, with an "electomagnetic-ring" detection system and small "anti-gravity" drive spherical camera devices. Very advanced stuff! The secret miltary technology is supposedly about 400 yrs. ahead of the civililian technology, so consider this, before you call this crap. Of course, some misinformation and disinformation may be mixed in, or the actual base may be in another area altogether, but that's "par for the couse".

On the internet, do a YAHOO search for: THE DULCE BOOK and/or THE DULCE PAPERS. Way too much information on this! It's a major genetics experimental lab, sort of a continuation of what the NAZIs were doing. Some mind control research, also. I wouldn't camp there, unless you risk being abducted and used in some horrible lab experiments underground! I've never been to that area, nor would I want to live there.

Utah is quite desolate, but beautiful in a desert way. Many areas are not accessable by conventional cars. In Salt Lake City (by a mall) and just east into the mountains, there has been sightings of reptilian-humanoids (same ones like in the Superstition Mts.) and "grey" aliens. There supposedly is a huge computer system in those mountains, involved in intelligence. Dugway Proving Grounds (east of Provo, with NO PUBLIC ACCESS) is believed to house a new "Area 51-type" of operation. The ultimate weird spot is "a 480-acre Uintah County cattle ranch" (located in the extreme NE corner of UTAH) - "rife with UFO activity and other bizarre occurances..." Some strange hyper-dimensional porthole exists here! Check out: "Is A Utah Ranch The Strangest Place On Earth?", From Jerry Glass (MUFON) - www.rense.com/general32/strange.htm, and "Part 2", By George Knapp (Las Vegas Mercury) - www.rense.com/general32/utah2.htm.

A word of CAUTION! DON'T drive down GROOM LAKE ROAD! It goes toward AREA 51 (GROOM LAKE), northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada. WACKENHUT CORPORATION provides perimeter security for AREA 51 (as well as many other sensitive and government locations). WACKENHUT used to do security for WAL-MART, but they have seemed to switch to SECURITAS. A black car (or cars) may attempt to run you off the road, or security officers WILL point automatic weapons at you, for real! They play for keeps! I NEVER tried to go there, but many others have, with the previously-mentioned results. You've been warned! But or course, some people live dangerously and take their chances.

Don't forget ROSWELL and CORONA, New Mexico! You can find souvenirs of the Roswell craft! We don't have many UFO sightings in Michigan. Mostly, they're over Lake Superior and in the Upper Peninsula. In New Mexico, check those skies for unusual craft! They're supposedly quite common there!

I call NEVADA (Area 51, Mercury and the nuclear bomb test sites), NEW MEXICO (Roswell, Corona, and Dulce), UTAH (Salt Lake City, Dugway Proving Grounds, and the Uintah cattle ranch) and ARIZONA (Page/south of The Glen Canyon Dam, by Lake Powell, The Superstition Mts. and The Grand Canyon) "the X-File states". They have alot of radioactive sites, nuclear bomb testing sites, experimental-classified tests, Deep Underground Military Bases (DUMB's) and very common UFO sightings and encounters. It is not as boring as the desert landscape suggests! I never experienced nothing unusal in those areas, but I know it exists. I don't live in those areas. Just enjoy the scenery and watch the skies for unusual craft. You may or may not see something. Meteors are more common.

I'm just educating you on the dangerous spots, that people simply don't know about, but then, they're mostly CLASSIFIED, and you're not supposed to know about them. You can avoid them and have a safe and happy commune with nature, unless you kayak on dangerous rivers, or meet up with an unfriendly animal, but those are just natural dangers. When you go out into nature, you must be aware and PREPARED (like a boy, or girl, scout) of your surroundings, for your own survival. Training from PROFESSIONALS is a good place to start!

    Be a HAPPY CAMPER!

    Peace, love and understanding . . .

Saying hey, Alot to respond to, it's great! Beats sulking.

Mark, the kayak I want to build will be able to take smaller streams at high water, a catamaran sounds like fun, two people straddling pontoons helping each other avoid death. I wonder how you'd keep your feet dry?

    Golden thread hang in.

Mimosa, you said a mouthful, it's hard to have an organization without having a set of beliefs, this forum even has them. They seem pretty broad; I see much that I only dreamed exsisted. You are a catalyst for me, I love your quote "if I can't be a good example, then let me be a horrible warning"

Cosmic Dust, I am interested in the supernatural/paranormal, definately going to mount Shasta. My neighbor told me about remote viewing, stuff is bizarre, if you get a chance do a Google search on it. Seems we are capable of things we're only beginning to realize. I bet the skies are big and clear at night in the southwest.

Steve, got to thank you again for staying with me, each day has its problems, I keep hoping you feel better. My freind just gave me about 40 pounds of venison, me and Rio (Dog) had some burgers, mine had Jalepenos, mayo, mustard and ketchup.

Havasupai, as Cosmic Dust mentioned, is the full name of the tribe I was describing. My mate tells me she spent some time in Roswell, talk about a freak show, she said you look at the people and you just know there's alien life on this planet! Maybe while I was out at night above Mooney Falls I sensed some of the spirits he was describing. BTW, that's some interesting info, Cosmic Dust.

Religion and politics, a coupla time bombs when it comes to controversial topics of conversation, but I embrace controversy, I just try to avoid the ugliness that can result (what was that I said about feeding the trolls again?). Another sensitive topic on this forum is meat (which isn't too surprising considering the audience). I got into it the other day when I mentioned that I love venison and I wanna learn to bow hunt deer, all of a sudden I found myself confronted by vegans, I shoulda seen that one coming I guess (and I mean no disrespect here in case there's vegans in the audience that view this post, I used to be one myself). It's a bummer you can't buy venison anywhere near where I live 'cause it's a wild animal, and the USDA can't control it.

Mimosa, nice quote, might make a good signature.

Mellow Yellow, love the howdy thread, had to rant for myself, a real catharsis. I think that the human capasity for spreading and conquering must be reigned in some how, I think education is the answer, but its hard to get the message out when money rules the media.

Oh yeah, one thing I wanted to say was I saw two immature bald eagles playing in the air over the creek in front of my house.

Yeah, kinda cool when it gets heavy like that (the howdy thread), I like to be forced think about what I believe in and what I stand for, and inspire others to do the same...

Lotsa cool creatures near rivers, especially in the more remote areas, I always look for herons, hawks, and eagles, sometimes you can watch 'em catch trout.

I have always been near the Mississsippi River and up this way in March, we have tons of bald eagles. It is so cool to see them, they still seem rare and special....a few years ago there was a major flock of them gathering only a few miles from where I live, and my daughter and I went over there to observe a flock of about 70 bald eagles on a marsh lake....

do you remember back in the 70's they were almost wiped out, the falcons and hawks too, from DDT. Now they are all over....love to see that happen. the earth can recover if we let it.

I remember the near extinction of the Bald Eagle, my dad and I did a cross country road trip in the early 70's, we were out West somewhere, and I saw my first Bald Eagle, what a thrill that was! There were so few of them then, but now I see them near my house every now and then, though it's still rare. I love those majestic birds of prey, my only complaint bein' that we need to keep our chickens fenced in at night (with a net overhead), lest they get picked off by hawks, though we also have other predators like foxes and Fishers.

i remember one time in about 77 i was hiking with some friends of mine in idaho, outside of lava hot springs, and we came upon about 15 golden eagles all together, it was so beautiful. and that same day we saw hundreds of butterflys, you never see that any more, they were hugh monarchs and they landed on us, what a day that was to be high in the mountains with nature, kinda like "rocky mountain high", by john denver.

I moved here a year ago and saw eagles for the first time it's still a treat everytime I see them, I remember the early seventies when it was rare to even see a hawk, DDT was some bad stuff. I wrote a paper for an english class about mercury poisining, which is going on now. There are blanket advisories in Pennsylvania to limit consumption of fish to one meal a week, and in some places to limit consumption of predatory fish to one meal a month or none at all. The thing that upsets me the most is that the technology exists to eliminate mercury discharges from coal burning power plants but through corporate and government inaction, our fresh waters are becoming more contaminated. The people most at risk are fetuses and young children, while the nervous system is developing, pregnant women are putting their children at risk. Some studies and papers I've read advocate avoiding cosumption of any freshwater fish. Birds have a natural defense against mercury poisining by concentrating it in their feathers which is eliminated when they molt.

Being out in nature when something unusual occurs is the best trip. I watched Monarch butterflies migrating for an afternoon, they where riding thermals up a ridge I was lounging on, they where almost coming by single file.

Mercury is a problem with freshwater fish. I used to go ocean fishing on a charter boat every year with my buddies in the Sound till I found out the issues with PCB's in the bass and blue fish I'd catch, so that's no longer an interest of mine. I just bought my lady a fly rod for her birthday (she's good like that), so we can learn to catch trout, and maybe while I'm kayaking she could catch us dinner or vice versa. I guess trout are the only species of fish in the Northeast that's safe to consume unlimited quantities of, and even then you need to be careful where you go, preferably fish in or near headwaters and smaller streams. I've heard the areas surrounding the Great Lakes region (upstate NY, PA) have issues with industrial waste left over from the Industrial Revolution. That kinda sucks. I'm thinking of moving to Maine where the water is clean. The bugs are ferocious, but that's just a sign that it's ok to eat the fish there.

    Take it easy,
    Mark

Awful cold in Maine. Better be into winter, sounds like you are. Cold aint that bad just a few more layers and a better appetite. I read a story in National Geographic about a fella that hiked across the Brooks Range in Alaska, part of his trip was in the dead of winter, man that's adventure!

It is damn cold in Maine, you're right, but it's like you say, you get used to anything, and that's the price you pay for beauty.

Hey, I just uploaded my best pics of the Havasu, check out my gallery. Here's a sample, Mooney Falls:
