for the record, i do not know if we are born with personalities; i suppose i tend to believe that we are not. this would make nil the idea of 'eternal soul'. but most believers in god would agree that god created each of us, complete with, like i said, bodily traits, likes, dislikes, desires, illnesses, positive and negative qualities. to think that only genetics and environment create our personalities is not considered above. also, i do not believe in free will, which is probably obvious.

    NMHG,

Good to hear you again, I have an image of you looking at that hovering bug indelibly etched into my consciousness.

    NMHG:
In my imagination I was not directly thinking of a human being (except for in the analog). I just "pictured" massive processing of relevant information such that the significant causal events where virtually understood as opposed to our understanding which would include more randomness. The answer is that I was not considering a human being as the entity with the "greatly minimized randomness relative to the 'view point' that we have." However, it could be the case, now that I am focused on this, that a computer based system, say a 'sensing network' or a 'database,' could provide the kind of information that I was considering to a human being. (I must qualify, here, that my views on this are much more detailed especially as it relates to human capabiliy but for multiple reasons I don't want go into that immediately.)

[edit,102505: looking back at this 'thought experiment,' acutally "the massive processing" 'visualized' really does provide the information to a human being - me or whomever "runs" this thought experiment]
    NMHG:
It doesn't necesarily mean that it doesn't either, but the implications of this are going to be tough on my brain and fingers (ie thinking and typing); so lets save this for the immediate or distant future (this is to my mind is a difficult question that I do not have a verbalized, 'linear,' understanding of yet).

    NMHG:
"He" or, rather, the "thing" with the perspective with "greatly minimized randomness" and "high-confidence" predictive capability in the hypothetical description that I wrote did not necessarily not create the personality, or "being," either. I did not make this assumption, either way.

    NMHG:
OK, NMHG, I first want to make clear that I have an awareness of God, a belief in God, that as stated, is not, overall, akin to many posters in this thread and to many folks in the world outside of the forum and this thread. Given this, I think that some very important starting questions, here, are "what is responsiblity" and "what is good and bad." I believe that there are multiple views in the sense, roughly categorized and that can be further reduced, that there is a "worldly view" and a "heavenly view" which are reconcilable with eachother and that are intimately linked but are largely hidden in that we, all of us, are learning what this means.

Even those who do not believe in God sometimes, even if fleetingly, ask "why do 'bad' things happen" or "why does this have to be" or, more generally, "why are things the way that they are (or appear to be)" ? In addressing a "reduced" worldly view that I will call "my human view" I want to add a portion of the Hippocratic Oath: "..make a habit of two things—to help, or at least to do no harm." I add this quote to begin with because it is, in my view, important how we respond to difficult situations that we cannot immediately reconcile; it is important that we respond in a balanced manner that is, without reserve, open to seeing the truth no matter where it appears to lead us. Hippocrates dealt with horribly difficult situations and had to remain balanced. The lack of this "balance," in my view, is a substantial source of difficulty, of dissonance, in human society and within the individual.

I have often observed that minds will often close down, or shut down, or will 'steer clear,' at first sight of certain truths. This process can be very fast (loosely, fractions of second), and is often a nonconscious event; but is real and is substantial. Knowing the truth means much more than knowing what we can easily, that is functionally, "talk about" or state; these are 'subtle' nonverbal realities. There are those who will aggressively reject what I am saying, without, at least, the reserve of saying "I do not know" or similiar; this is, at least often, layers of the mind responding in denial in order to resolve, or "solve," the pain that they 'see' or 'feel' because there is truth in what I am saying.

I have found that when something difficult happens that I have two basic views that are, as I stated before, "intimately linked" even if sometimes I am not able to immediately reconcile these views so as to see this "link." These views, even if I have not realized their harmony, are are actually in harmony. When these views are reconciled, "'two views' become 'one view.'" As stated above I have named a broad categorization of these views "worldly view" and "heavenly view." As an example, people will be sitting at the bed of someone that they love and this person is dying. They will say, "why is this happening, this is so wrong." And this makes sense, as they are in agony over losing a loved one. I feel pain, now, while I am writing this; but I also know that there is something that is perfect about this event and I endevor to see it; to see why this is so, to see more of why this is so. And answers are available, but it is important to allow the mind's awareness to evolve in order to learn more; this is an ongoing process of reconciling the "worldly view" and the "heavenly view."

Look at MrRee's signature, it is horrible; I can barely look at it. How can this be perfect or good ? This 'collateral damage,' this image of profound human suffering, is the result of deeply enculturated human evil; a summation of human foolishness, no matter "who appears 'right' and who appears 'wrong.'" This is not perfect, this is not good, this is human suffering. Yet, as difficult as this may be to accept, there is a second aspect where this is perfect in that it occurs. Ultimately, why we are who we are and why there is suffering I do not consciously know. Transcendence of suffering is available to us; but why this trancendence manifests the way it appears to from my view, I do not consciously know. In my experience the view near death and in tramatic situations has, in the past, been very different than the view in a "'normal' daily mode" of consciousness; much good has been given to me in my life and much good has been taken away. But this view has been evolving through the years, I now find that the hurdles are not so much that of death and of personal suffering as of wanting to relieve the suffering of others and of wanting to live; the wanting to complete or fulfill "drives" or "missions" that naturally emerge from my soul. So in looking at MrRee's signature I cannot help but feel pain, feel grateful and feel that I better not "cling too tightly."

I do not view the universe, to me also known as God, as something with exclusively human qualities, far from it. I do not view God as something to hate or to be angry with, instead, I view God as something amazing, as something wonderful, where what appears to be suffering one day can appear much differently the next; and I sense that others who experience suffering will also eventually discover this.

    P/L,

    David

If you know anything about the God of the Bible, you would know He plays everything out to the end. Even His own death on the cross could of been avoided if God did it the way humans look at things. Yet God states that His thoughts are higher than ours. So there are reasons He works this way which we don't understand. Yet God has given us proof of His existance through His prophecies which are being fulfilled even in the day we live, yet the world is so far removed from God, they don't see them. Perhaps you should look more into that matter.

    YOU THINK?

Still waiting for a reply for this one...

In a nutshell, God said well over 2000 years ago in Ezekiel that when this gate found in Jerusalem is sealed that it will remain sealed until the messiah returns and walks through it. It was sealed in 1517 and it still remains sealed today after almost 500 years and after serveral attempts to falsify the prophecy.

Interestingly enough, in Ezekiel it states that the messiah would not walk though the original gate but a porch of the gate which was an addition to the orginal. How could Ezekiel even know about such an addition hundreds of years before it was built. On top that, how would he have know that it would be sealed and when the gate was sealed, it would remained closed until the messiah reveals himself and is exalted. Furthermore, the fulfillment was not brought about by those who believed the prophecy but those who did not believe the Bible.

P.S. This is the same gate that Jesus road through when He was exalted riding on a donkey on Palm Sunday... perhaps a little foreshadowing?

If you understood the OT and why Jesus came you would understand what was nailed on the cross... the prophecies of the OT were not nailed on the cross but are still very valid even today. Last time I checked... the east gate is still standing and so is my faith...

I have already explained the prophecy numerous times to you and its significance... unless you cannot read, you have refused to refute the amazing prophecy...

HERE IT IS FOR THE LITERALLY 10th TIME.... wow

If God is God it should come as no surprise that His thoughts would be higher than ours. Yet, it would be a big mistake to believe that God can never be experienced. The biggest roadblock to your experience with GOD, is yourself. The proof of the Bible is in it's prophecies. They speak of history before it happens. Much of the things in the Middle East which involve Israel, and what is going to happen here in America, the Bible talks about. It's sad, but much of the prophecies are seldom talked about in most churches. Yes, it does come down to belief, but it is a belief built on a solid foundation.

No, the prophecy is being fulfilled. First, the Old East Gate was not destroyed but was buried. Second, a second Gate was built on top of the Old Gate which made it the porch of that Gate. Third, the second Gate was sealed up by those who did not believe in the Bible, and by doing so, they were unaware of fulfilling one of the prophecies. Forth, the prophecies stated that once the Gate was sealed, no one would ever walk through the Gate again, but the prince to come. No one has. Fifth, the prophecy states that anyone who tries to break through the Gate will fail in their attempt. There were two attempts to break the prophecy by Moslems. Once in 1916 I believe, and second in 1967. Both attempts failed just as the Bible said they would. So as it stand we have 5 prophecies that have come to pass with the East Gate, and only one more left to be fulfilled. That will be when the Prince to come opens it. Jesus Christ. If you wait until Christ walks throught the Gate, you will admit you were wrong, but you will be adimitting it from Hell.

How consistently deceiptful these "christians" are!

There is no evidence of any supposed "east gate" of any temple, buried, rebuilt, or standing.
It's all just a convoluted fabrication in support of their typically lying deceiptfulness.
Get thee hence campbell34, JesusDiedForU, erise!

    Campbell,

I want to let you know that, although I strongly disagree with much of what you write in these threads, I am appreciative of your willingness to express your point of view, I am grateful for your cordial and civil manner; our world needs more of this. It is good to communicate with you. Also, I do not feel that my "island question," posed to you a couple of months ago, was ever adequately answered; and, if you would like to, at some point maybe we can revisit this question.

    Parsing the above quote:

    and,
    and,
    and,
    and,
    and,
The above quotes strongly indicate that you believe that scientific method is an important tool. Are there areas of experience where you believe that scientific method cannot be applied, or cannot be effectively applied, and, if so, what are these areas ?

    Peace,

    David
