One of California new homeless/mental illness laws is they will have teams going out to clean out homeless camps. They will first warn them then a few days later move in to clean it up. Here is the new law, they ask "would you like help?" If you answer yes! They take you to a possessing station to determine your needs. If you say NO! They place you forcibly into a "care facility" AKA mental evaluation facility because "you must be crazy to refuse help!" They then have the standard 72 hour hold to evaluate you. So yes, it's good to get help and clean the streets but the BIG fear is they now have FULL control over your life just for being homeless! They determine what to do with you under force. There is speculations both willing and unwilling are not allowed to leave these facilities. "Asking to leave to go back to the streets shows they are mentally ill" The past few years several prisons have and are being converted to house these people. Changing only the name of the facility. What's your thoughts?

If you don't wish to be taken into custody, don't answer. Just walk away and keep walking until you've left the questioner behind.

Then, continue with your life as best you can.

My thought is that they've just let it go on too long without finding some way to take care of these people. Who the hell can afford to live in SF? Perhaps we need another program like the CCC during the depression - you get food and shelter in return for being on a work detail. That's how many state and national parks were built. However, that's not going to happen with the addiction issues....plus, then, people had pride.

    Doesn't California deserve the "problem"?

It's a "sanctuary" State for illegal immigrants, is it not?

How about kudos for California…..they are working to find compassionate solutions to a big problem and avoiding the right-wing rathole. They are dealing with a drug problem that is nationwide thanks to big pharma and cooked prescription writers. We need to hold the latter accountable. Meanwhile conservatives poll vault over mouse turds like keeping as many guns in circulation as possible, darks ages abortion policy, banning books, and t——. What happened in Tennessee is gross…seems like much of the regression in the South and rural America is due to hate and racism and hate….

When Texas, Florida, Arkansas, Idaho and now Iowa start solving their problems l’ll be impressed. Maybe it’s because. Obama was so much more effective at solving real problems than t——and his cronies that the bankrupt right wing ever would be.
