tazing isnt as easy as it seems. if u dont hit the person properly with it, it wont do anything to them really, and will allow them to continue running at you. There are situations where tazers should be used, but this wasnt one of them. not with a convict of this nature
So let's summarize, shall we? Ya, that's a reason to get killed. Yep, should have, guilty or not. Been watching too many Dirty Harry movies son. So, inferring that he should be executed for whatever happened in this scene based on prior convictions. Says a lot right there. Exactly. Not sure how he was an immediate threat to life when the cop has distance and a gun aimed with clear line of sight. He never assessed the threat, shot first. That's what he's saying. Convincing point. Ok, unload your entire weapon on every person law enforcement comes in contact with. Pulled over for rolling a stop sign? Unload. Why? Cause once there was this time when this dude... That's why pulling the trigger is the last resort, not the first. Surprised Nox. Taught to shoot to kill, yes. When there's NO OTHER CHOICE. That guy was not a threat when the first shot was fired. The cop also rushed in and put himself at that distance. That is not protecting yourself, that is putting yourself in possible harms way. Then claiming self defense. That is not what is is taught in self defense training. And there ya go. Just add a "T" to the front of his name, that should explain it fine. Might explain why he loves defending obvious cases of obvious over use of force. One last thing that wasn't mentioned. If the officer acted properly, as trained, per policy, then why did he have to make up a story??? The thing is for participants on both sides of the debate, we can't expect to get an accurate story on the events. All you have to do is see story after story after story where facts are omitted, twisted, and made up. None of us were there, none of us know exactly what we would have done. I would just say this. Lethal force is a last resort, not first. And behaving like he had it coming, criminal or not, shows complete lack of empathy for another human. That's sociopathic. The thing is, far too often in life people are incapable of empathy for another persons situation until it happens to them or their loved ones. Good thing there is such a thing as karma. Next time you judge away a persons human rights, you will definately have those thrown back at you when you are on the receiving end.
Honestly, why all the shit being thrown at rolling? I seriously believe that any of you crying about excessive force and shit would have either done the exact same thing or stood there in a pool of your own urine as the guy rams a knife in your ribs. Sorry, but if it comes down to me or him, I'm gonna do all in my power to walk away, same as the cop did. But on the other hand largeamounts completely unrelated ad-hominum attacks at rollingstoned have caused me to stop and reconsider my position on this and everything else I believe.
Hey Voyage, being a little ludicrous there buddy. My thought is 1) the cop knew this guy obviously and knew a hell of a lot better than any of us just how much of a threat this person posed. It's pretty naive to think we can determine the threat level present. 2) the guy was armed 3) a knife is considered a deadly weapon within 10'. 4) you guys that think cops should only "shoot to wound" and anything else is excessive have been watching too many TV police dramas. In real life you shoot to kill, anything less then you may be the one dead.
1.Yes, he did. He was lying in wait for him to arrive, clearly shown in the video. He knew the guy, had every opportunity to consider things before he rushed in and threw himself into that situation. 2. That's debatable. What isn't is he had access to or even in his hand, a knife. Won't argue the 10ft threat thing. The cop put himself there. Period. You've seen real footage of cops taking control of a situation and protecting themselves from a distance. It's deceitful to look at that vid, and say he had to rush in to close proximity like that. And stop with the shoot to kill argument, "maybe he's deranged on drugs, maybe he has a vest", bla bla bla... the first shot or two took him down. END OF FUCKING STORY!!! No need to keep moving closer and empty his gun. 3. A gun is a deadly weapon at 50 or 100 feet. Bullshit Nox. He put himself in the so called life threating position. Tell me that is what cops are trained to do. Go ahead, tell me. 4. I didn't say that. Inferences were made to tazing or whatever earlier in the thread but whatever... You know me at least a bit more than to include me in that statement about cop shows. As for people calling rollin on his trolling... well, whatever. Not the first time he's acted like he knows all about police training and tactics, proper use of tasers, defending use of deadly force or torture by law enforcement. Rollin has admitted to criminal behavior all over hip. Therefore, I suggest next time he has contact with law enforcement, they just execute his ass. Unless what he's really doing is tr0llinstoned, in which case... hahahaaahhaa... you so funny
I didn't watch the video because I don't particularly want to see someone blasted to oblivion,so I can't comment on it. I just know that when you HAVE to deal with cops,circumspection/extreme caution should be exercised. When driving my '67 Marlin to Oregon from Cal ,I was going thru Fresno with a trip permit on the back window, which was difficult to see because of the radical slope of the window. Got pulled over by two cops, one gets out ,takes a stance, puts his hand on his gun on the right side of the car, while the other has a hand on his gun and is inching up on the drivers side. I had started thinking about Amadou Diallo as soon as I saw the red lights behind me so I had stuck my hands WAY up in the air out the window as soon as I stopped. Permit situation solved--then cop says "why did you stick your hands up like that--only bad guys do that"? So,what in hell IS the right way when cops approach? I'm just glad I did not reach for my wallet like poor Mr Diallo did. Best way to deal with cops is NOT to.
Saw the video. Heard the cop tell him to drop the knife. But I didn't see a knife. They say the knife flew out of his hand and into the back of the truck when he got shot. Didn't see that either.
Again, why is it considered trolling to express a viewpoint that is not in the majority? rollingstoned has been here as long or longer then a lot posting in this thread, yet he is now considered a troll? So I guess it's yet another evolution of the whole "free speech" philosophy of Hip Forums. So now if you express a dissenting viewpoint you are harangued and called troll. Awesome, strike another victory for freedom of speech and expression of ideas and opinions.:2thumbsup:
Wow, I guess I'm watching a different video. When he get's out of the truck and places his right hand up on the roof of the car you can see a knife in his hand. Really am I the only one that sees the knife in his right hand?
this could be turned into a pretty good forum games thread. your opinion is invalid, because your stupid name implies that you have sex with large amounts of farm animals! ok, now someone do me.
i couldn't see it. it may have been there, but even the better video posted on page two wasn't clear enough to tell for sure. i saw something for a split second that may have been a knife, or it may have been his hand.
Why the fuck shoot him ELEVEN TIMES? Was the recruitment some sort of affirmative action policy? Sort of "lets recruit a cop with epilepsy"? And Parkinsons? WTF
PS American firearms/ arrest doctrine/ policy seems to be far more "shoot 1st, ask questions later" than alot of other places. Our cops are largely scum (Hi if you're reading!) but they are TOLD to be measured before they empty lead. I dont think being trigger happy actually helps against xs violence. It contributes to more of it, IMO. BTW no I didnt watch the vid/ rd all the thread.
See, now that's extremeism too. Not all criminals need to get executed cause they're criminals, cops aren't "largely scum". I've met some very cool cops. Got treated poorly once when I was a kid and deserved it. Have also had cops behave like very cool people with a job to do. I'd rather have cops than no cops, even though they are human just like the rest of us. Fallable.
People are people,no matter what they do for a job. Another cop might have handled this scene differantly. 11 shots seems somewhat excessive to me. Shit happens. A deaf mute was shot in the back in Oakland,(I think) some years ago when he was ordered to stop and obviously couldn't hear the order(in hind sight). Another cop might have handled that differantly also. I will say that cops deal with a lot of dangerous shit-heads, so when you deal with them you have to think ahead and not give them a chance to exercise bad judgement.
Exactly the point. There's the dude on pcp, and the deaf mute. Two sides of the same coin. :2thumbsup:
By largely, I meant over 50%. I've known good people join and they say "I cant handle this, the culture is disgusting", and they leave. I've also got friends in the force, and some of the stuff I hear from them is shocking. Some of them do try and do a good job themselves. But its the overall culture set by the top, thats rotten to the core. So even if you try and be a good one, if you dont whistleblow the shit, you arent *that* much better than the worst. Google "Hillsborogh Disaster" or Jimmy Saville to realise how bent our organisations are. There's loads of stuff I could post on here. THATS extremism. Hence my comments.
