By the year 2000

    I remember in the late 70's/early80's there was much talk a cashless society by the year 2000.

    Well I suppose we have EFTPOS but not completly cashless.What is being used a great deal less is personal cheques.

    It's becoming almost cashless. You could count Checks as cashless in a way. And Credit and Mac cards...

    There weren't too many futurists who predicted the rise of the internet. Some mentioned getting news by computer, but most failed to predict the gigantic internet community that sprouted up. A lot of futurists seem good at predicting new hardware gadgets, but many seem to fail at predicting esoteric entities like the internet. The internet is almost like a consciousness, separate from the hardware.
