How are we Hipfolk musos, Input needed on Bass amps, looking for a rolling cab and head setup. wanting something that can take abuse from a beginner haha. Any input appreciated.
Awesome! I would love an Orange setup but bloody expensive. What would you say on a comparison between Blackstar, And Peavy?
Here on stage the Marshall noise is peircing through your ears It kicks your ass, kicks your face, exploding feeling nears Now's the time to let it rip to let it fucken loose! We're gathered here to maim and kill cause this is what choose!
I am not an expert on popular music equipment, but the same rules apply to any amplifier speaker combination. Ensure that the speakers are free from physical damage and overload. ANY rattle is a sure sign of damage. Valve amplifiers are less prone to overload damage, but early transistor models often had residual DC in the output which pulled the speaker cone off center, resulting in damage. Transformer coupled output avoids this problem, but may not be available, except on broadcast quality equipment, FET (field effect transistor) amplifiers are superior, but again may not be within your price range. When testing, keep levels low, since once you turn the volume up, problems will be masked and your ears will be too stunned to hear them. Needless to say, listen for AC hums with the volume up and no inputs connected, since they will caused by faults in the amplifier power supply smoothing capacitors. Once this has happened, other components in the amplifier are likely to have suffered damage.
Hartke makes good stuff.... Behringer not so much. If that Peavey is a "Max 110" it's a bass amp. They made a "Envoy 110" that was a guitar amp. The Max series came in different wattage ratings, I wouldn't get it if it was under 100 watts. (unless you plan to never play with a drummer)
Which is exactly why I want to get the Amp. There are a couple more Hartke rigs, cab and amp. Ill keep looking. There is a Fender rumble 200 single piece unit also??
I'm not a "fender" guy... Back in the day they made good stuff, now I'm not so sure. If I bought a Fender bass amp it would be an older tube amp and I would probably use it for guitar.
If you can find one of these it would work well for you... Laney RB4 combo. (random internet photo) I have one myself and can attest to the fact that they are pretty solid with decent sound. 160 watts, 15 inch speaker, good components. Plenty loud enough to compete with a drummer. If I had to grab a bass amp and go jam, this is what I would take. (not that this ever happens) Better than loading my stereo Sunn Concert bass rig (two amps, two cabinets, etc. etc.)
Yeah sweet, there are a couple of Laney going at the moment. Ill definitely have a look. Cheers for the info. Yeah ive seen those double cab setup's massive things!
