Anyone been to the Burning Man event? Its held at Black Rock City, a temporary city erected in the Black Rock Desert of northwest Nevada, about 100 miles north-northeast of Reno.
There are ham radio operators that come to the playa to launch rockets and planes with cameras and APRS trackers. I hear they have quite the blast with it. I don't think they do this during the festival, though. That might prove quite chaotic.
Way back in 1996 I use to chat on a website... I won’t mention the name. Anyways, they had a tent and a bunch of us on this site went there, It has changed since then and has become commercial. They served up grill cheese sandwiches to everyone who came to their tent, Lol. Nudity was everywhere.
The problem, as I see it, is that it's out in the desert. You really have to come prepared. But I have an acquaintance that goes to the thing religiously. She's kind of outdoorsy and big on DIY raving actually, so maybe it's her niche. Not mine. I'm too much of a homebody for much of anything anymore. The last time I went to a festival I didn't like how crowded it was. Except in the VIP section...
Its like sleeping in the open ... no showering ... long as you stoned throughout you'll be fine otherwise best to stay at home.
lol. It is an effigy. The event begins on a Sunday and they burn the man on the Saturday. It is a festival for the arts and freedom of expression,a festival that doesn’t live by the rules of society. It Kind of marking an end. It is a large wooden structure. Anyways, the event is commercial now. They are also suppose to leave no trace in black rock but they do. Some have decided not to leave the area now too.
I thought about going to this ever since I first heard of it, but by then it was way too expensive to go to and I don't particulary like the lack of answers to my own questions about it. I think I'll stay away for the rest of my life, now that I think about it.
