And the world can't live with out symbols? Its not a symbol, it dosen't mean anything. Its a piece of cloth on a pole. People place to much in a flag. Like I said before if you need a flag to repersent something for you then it does need to be burnt. Ya'll say the flag represents the people who fought for the flag. How is it anyless true to say it stands for the people who had to fight *BECAUSE* of the flag?
Yes. American history focusing on Australia. Makes sense. And i read shakespeare in math class. God, sometimes, i am really ashamed of the idiots we produce in this country. The flag represents America. America is the people + our ideals. Hardly a thing that should ever be burned. The United States/Washington = the government. Burn the presidential seal. Also, if you cant protest without burning the flag, i truly pity you(and our education system). It must be kinda weird when Oz and NZ play each other and you see a sea of the same flag waving. I guess bothsides can feel good then
The United States has a reputation around the world for having a highly patriotic, "American focused" education that completely lacks even basic knowledge about the history or geography of other nations. So shut the fuck up you self righteous twat. Conservatives always pick on context - The dude meant to say "History Classes in America", even a fucking five year old could have figured it out with a bit of lateral thought.
I only wish. The only thing more pathetic than an American's knowledge of the world is an American's knowledge of AMERICA. edit: why wouldnt a history be focused on its own country? I would expect the same in every country. And i think you're pretty naive if you believe that in places like england or germany that they dont put their OWN history first. God forbid you actually take something at face value. I think my english/european history is far better than my American history. I doubt most American's even know what concord bridge is. I think the rest of the world has this stereotype about American schools that we basically indoctrinate our kids, make them flag wavers etc. Christ, we have schools where you cant even SING OUR OWN NATIONAL ANTHEM. Our lower education sucks, flat out sucks. We have bought into this multicultural bullshit and we dont teach ANYTHING. We take the "teach 2 facts about every country(but not where that country is located!)" approach and it SUCKS. We glance over a wide range of countries/cultures and we dont actually teach anything about ANYONE. Unless you actually know something about education in this country, please shut up. You only look as stupid and ignorant as you try and paint us as.
Have you finished? By claiming that you have a reputation for something it doesn't mean that i believe it. I don't know anything about the education in your country and I never said i did. I was just sticking up for the young fellow who you, in not so many words, labelled as STUPID AND IGNORANT all by your fucking self. You said it, not me: Congratulations, you've painted yourself as a dick. What a wonderful representation you are for your country.
I call em as i see em. And yes, it pains me to see that someone would make such an ignorant and hateful statement by saying they'd burn an american flag because its "fun to watch a redneck squirm" Sorry, if not tolerating the hateful and ignorant makes me a 'dick,' then i'm a dick. I think you should choose who you defend a little better. p.s. Squirrel: What the Founders did was treason back then too.
Maybe you should move to North Korea then or China,Russia,or Iraq...See how you like it! Yes America's Government is corrupt...But what country's isn't?
I burn my tent every year after the music festival is over. I'm not protesting.... just can never be bothered to take it home with me and they are so cheap nowadays. A flag actually costs more than a tent. There are plenties of other things to burn why start with flags: We could start with Daniel Beddingfield, U2, my bank manager and anyone that bothers to phone in for a poll where there is three answers (yes, no, not bothered) and answers not bothered. If you aren't bothered why phone in.
You see some far out things and you take some pretty big sentiments from some pretty ordinary comments. Obviously the American schooling system doesn't fail in teaching kids to have an imagination. But hey, thats what conservatism is based on, protecting the public from imaginary threats. By the way, ducking out of taking responsibility for absolutely anything you said and putting it all on squirell was a nice touch. I've given you plenty of fuel for a scathing reply (make sure you take some it out of context, maybe chuck in a few lies, and some self righteous twaddle, edit it about 10 times before its perfect and voila you're intellectually superior, congratulations) but this time I have nothing else to say. Keep on telling everyone how much stupider they are than you megara and have a nice day.
Its called personal responsibility. You say something and you get judged by what you say. I would hardly think i see 'far out things' and take some 'pretty big sentiments' because i think its hateful that she 1) labels anyone who respects the flag a redneck and 2) that she takes a sick pleasure in watching people squirm. But hey, to teach their own. ???
I probably didn't explain this little easter egg very well so i decided to come back and start you thinking on the right track and you can figure out the rest, you're smart, i know you can do it: Conservatism is often the preservation of patriotic, old fashioned, traditional or outdated beliefs (in a rapidly changing world, why?). When a "foreign" or progressive idea comes along, a conservative will often go to any length to discredit the idea or the people associated with the it to the public, exaggerating or just flat out lying about these new concepts to paint them as threatening. Now in order to make bogeyman out of these so called threats, and for the public to believe it - what virtue of the mind is needed..... starts with I.... and its not intelligence have fun.
Conservatism isn't always as bad as you make out. Take music videos for instance. I am against the banning of music but an age certificate that you have with films is a great idea. The boundaries are constantly being pushed by artists to try and shock us but its taking more and more to shock the viewers nowadays. Look where we've come. In the mid 1980s Frankie Goes To Hollywood's "Relax" was banned in the UK because of the lyrical content. A few years later and George Michael had a song banned and then Madonna. Its not a good thing to ban music because everyone has a right to hear of view what they like but how far does it go. The above mentioned artists songs are now no longer banned and considered mild. In the mid 90s the prodigy had a song called "smack my bitch up". The video for that was quite shocking but now its again considered quite mild. Has anyone seen the Cradle of Filth movie "Cradle of fear". Its low production but if there is an imaginery line of taste then this film goes so far past it the line isn't visible any more. Like I said don't ban the video but make it so its not in the mainstream. You don't want kids growing up thing heroine, slapping women, cutting off limbs, rape, murder etc is the norm. (I know someone is going to say "They'll see far worse on the news"). Thats where conservatism has its place. Defining boundaries of taste and decency. Its should not however stop people's freedom. By the way the Cradle of Fear video which has less budget than an episode of Neighbours has a great underlying story line.
This just came out of left field. It had no correlation to what we were talking about. It was just some bullshit rhetoric you threw in to try and slander me. And excuse me, are the proponents of the 'progressive' ideas honest, never lying, exaggerating about old concepts to paint them as threatening(outdated perhaps?). I think your vilification of conservativism is unwarranted BTW, if you want to consider burning a flag as a 'progressive idea,' then go ahead, i simply disagree with you. I think it adds NOTHING of value to our society. That, however, doesn't mean it should be banned. I'm against statutes that would make burning the flag illegal. But i'm also against idiots who burn the flag.
I would burn it in protest, say if my government were burning people alive at the time or something. Otherwise, I wouldn't do it unless it had more of a literal meaning in doing so. I would have no problems defacing my flag. Painting a moustache or making some kind of cultural, economical, social and/or political statement and expressing my views through creative art. It is my belief, that burning a flag is not a violent form of protest and owning a flag is your own private property.
why what whould you do...throw punches? Because I'm burning your flag right now...that's right the state flag of Virginie sweetheart. oopsie.
