    i disagree.

Can we not have favorite musicians, or painters or food? That would mean some are 'better' than others.

Are you against cultural, language, or anything that divides us?

Saying i cant be proud of being an American is like saying i cant be proud that my name is Chris. It is who i am.

Language and culture are, I believe suitable reasons to divide ourselves... we can't really control that, can we? We aren't all born with the same culture or language. But what is a nation that makes it so important that we choose it over total human union? I don't understand the reason for continued patriotism except that it has been drilled into society's convictions since birth.

  3. Most western nations, as far as langauge and culture are concerned, are only defined by their government. The culture is irrelavent.

Pride, nationalism, patriotism, it all disgusts me. Maybe if we could ever end these things we could actually grow. Maybe we could even stop seeing eachother as Aussies, Yankies or whatever and just see people. Sometimes we forget that were just people.

I nominate 1 culture, 1 language. Mine. We most certainly can change it. One Government broadcasting one middle class white American culture. Now that is utopia. hamburgers and hotdogs for everyone!

p.s. that is a joke. I see no reason to do away with nationalities just like i dont want to get rid of cultures/languages.

If I agreed that the flag represents my countries people, my countries land and lifestyles, I would answer no, don't burn it. But I think the flag represents my country in terms of the government and ancestory. I don't like our current government, and haven't liked our government since the second president. As for ancestory, well I see no reason to be proud of my ancestors--not because they didn't do anything to be proud of, but because my ancestors are not me, and what they did is of no more relevance to me now than the ancient chinese ancestors, and what they did. As far as I'm concerned, I'm not an american, I'm a person living in america. The same thinking would apply for me, even if I lived in a country that I was proud of and liked (like the Netherlands, for example).

I'd hate to break it to you Henry but you're only 14yrs old and what you think you know now is nothing compared to what you will know 10yrs from now. America is the best country out there, not saying no other country is great..but it is the best in terms of freedom. Here we can have a poll on how much we hate bush on national televison..no other country can do that, we all have opportunites to be rich or poor depending on our determination, if we don't like our jobs we quit and find a better one, if we don't like our husbands or wifes we cheat on them..in some countries if you did that you would be killed. We are spolied rotten brats who do nothing but bitch all day every day about how much we hate it here. i'm sick of it if you don't like it GET THE FUCK OUT. You have feet and money go by a ticket and fly to nowhere maybe you'll like it there better

I would burn a flag. Patriotism is bullshit. "Patriotism is the willingness to kill and be killed for trivial reasons," Bertrand Russell. In fact, far right patriotism is called fascism. Look up Mussolini.

so what are you concluding by saying this....
that if you find God you couldn't burn a flag
if you find God you are patriotic?
    or vice versa?
    peace, love and sunflowers

You could burn a flag if you wanted and still believe in God, and you could be a patriot without believing in God, what I was concluding to the girl about her previous comment was that if you find God you would be humble enough to not want to waste your time!!!

okay, i believe in God, and i see no issue in burning a flag. it represents your state of mind towards what the flag now means. and i do not agree with what the current british gov't and flag stands for, so therefore see no issue in this. God is love, and people want to alter the type of system they live in, and improve the love and peace, so i think they can be tied in

Too bad I don't believe in the Christian god. That's besides the point. Got anything else on topic?

When you burn your country's flag it's saying you hate your country..Iraqies burn the American flag because they hate us burning a flag is symbolism of HATE, believing in God is believing in love, forgiviness and acceptance. if you believe in God and pratice his teachings then you will be truely happy and you will live in a state of humbelism (that might not be a word)

its going slightly of topic, but God is all, in my opinion. just because i believe in God doesn't mean i should forget about the starving people dying, wars and disease and trying to help. it is love that makes people want to get up and change this.
God is not acceptance of authority that is in place, it is using the love

Sorry, I believe god is just a security blanket for those who can't accept the world for what it is. Look up Bertrand Russell's "Why I am not a Christian." BTW, I am Buddhist. I would burn a flag b/c I don't agree with the fascist state of this country and the thousands of lives lost in an aggressive war, both Iraqis and Americans. Every life is equal, no matter what nationality. Besides, flags represent divisions amongst people which are used to justify killing each other. Religion and nationality differences have been used for centuries as excuses for wars.

    Peace & Love
