Burn your own flag?

Burning the flag of my country would be a betrayal. I'm english, this country has brought me up. This country has fed me. I have good times in this country. I am proud to be from this country and would swap my nationality for no other. There is one thing that I am not proud of and that is the immigration system.

are you sure you are not proud of sporting pride rather than pride in the country. its sounds like you are proud for no other reason other than that in the UK you are 'supposed' to be proud.

why would burning a flag be betrayal, who would you be betraying, i don't think the queen dies if you burn a flag!

all states have their good qualities and bad qualities, me personally have absolutely no pride what so ever in the UK or even the EU, but at least to me the EU represents something that is trying to move forward humanity.

your not proud of the immigration system, the system that has helped and saved so many lives, kept our economy running strongly, sorry but you really need to stop believing and reading tabloid newspapers. because you really are starting to seem like the usual english racist, right wing type.

Just because a few of uis happen to think there are too many immigrants entering the Uk doesn't make us racist. We are an island. An island that can only house and give employment to so many people.

Being racist is treating someone differently because of the colour of their skin or where they are from.

By saying that you want the immigration laws tightened you are not discriminating against anyone.

yes because the actually reason people give usually comes from tabloid newspapers. nothing to do with actually thought of the situation. and the reason people want to believe such a thing, is because it is justification for xenophobia in my opinion (in the UK)

there are record amounts of british leaving the island- more left then came a few yearws ago- now work that in to the very basic idea of economics and there is your answer.

I'm afraid my beliefs are alive and well in the modern society.

I question the immigration process for a number of reasons. A number of asylum seekers come because they say they are in danger in their own country.

Most of the asylum seekers are male. Later on after they are given citizenship they bring their wives and children across. So in a country where there is danger the men come first leaving the women and children behind.

The EU has made this worse by allowing countries like Poland a free right of passage into the EU giving any polish person the right to come to Britain. 300000 polish people have since moved to Britain and how many of them are working? A large number are claiming benefits.

 

There are so many people our borders can take, Britain is FULL. Why should we cram ourselves with all the immigrants whilst at the same time us Britons are losing out. Asylum seekers are claiming benefits and guess what, the British pensioners are paying for it. Why should British citizens pay for people they never invited in. If you want to buy a house Asylum seekers are put above Britons. The majority of Asylums come over from a reasonably safe country and take our money. Personally I don't think we should take asylum seekers at all. Ship them off to France, Germany, Brussels etc.
Do you see this tiny little British Isle that are being overfilled with immigrants?

There are many things to be proud of my country for. We have the best army in the world. We have the SAS which no country in the world can match, the same special force that trained U.S Special forces, remember the storming of the Iranian Embassy that screened worldwide live in 1980. Confirmation that the stiff Upper Lip that still remains in the English after July 7th bombings. The same courage showed during WW1 and WW2. The spirit is awesome. The english as a nation are tough, they're fighters. We are also very generous, helping dying Africans. We are also trying to sort out World pollution, which the U.S aren't. We are one of the most advanced nations on earth. There are so many reasons I should be proud of my country, but at the same time there are some that I am not proud of, which is mainly the immigration system. We have the best football league in the world. We had some of the best poets in the world. We have a great history and culture. We are the world cup champions in Rugby. We are the world champions in cricket. The pride of my country isn't FAKE, I AM proud of my country, just take a look in my bedroom and you will see a St. George flag Duvet and pillow case, desktop England flags and so many more England souvenirs. We're putting up a flag pole in a couple of months which the St. George flag will be flying on outside my front door for the world cup. It will remain there permanently.

the spirit is awesome???? i'm sorry i live with 11 other english people, and not one is proud of being english, maybe in some towns, usually tends to be places with high racism against others.

i didn't say you shouldnt be proud, i was just making the claim that the reasons why are soo fake and unreal. and is the attitude that you represented is why i do plan to leave the UK as soon as i finish University. i do not dislike our country, i do however see no reason to be proud, and do not believe in what our country stands for

In England I believe we do have some problems with immigration but I think your view is that pretty much no people should come over and live in our country, which is partly the medias fault- they only ever report the bad things and hold the view that nearly all asylum seekers are scroungers etc. What about all those that work here and contribute to the country, such as those working and contributing to our economy? I am very grateful to these people. I believe that we are lucky to live in a stable relatively free country and why should we ignore people who are in serious danger in their own country? Should we just turn our backs on people rather than give them a chance to have a better life? Some people have come here from terrible situations in their own countries. I do understand that there are many problems with immigration and their are also many who exploit it but there are also those with few other options and who need help.
I want to make clear I am not unaware that there are problems with imigration in the Uk but its not fair to say "I don't think any asylum seekers should come here". But yeh thats just my opinion.

Anyway as for the original poster I'm not sure I would burn my countries flag- there are definately a lot of things I don't agree with i.e the iraq war but hmm.. i dont know the answer to this question!

You have no knowledge of the armed forces do you? My dad was in the Light Infantry 2nd Batallion fighting the IRA in Northern Ireland throughout the 90s. I've heard some incredible things to be proud of with our armed forces. I don't know one person at home, work or anywhere else that isn't proud to be english. Could it be the people you hang around with. Is it that hippies don't believe in cultural or national pride?
You DO believe that I should have no pride whatsoever, but tough shite mate. I'm full of pride and forever will be. Leave the UK, I don't give a toss. You hate the country, you leave it. Best thing to do.

I wouldn't say that I wouldn't want any immigrants because then you end up with a stifled system and thats not healthy at all but I do believe there should be control which is sadly lacking at the moment.

I believe Britain is having problems at the moment because we have come too far too quickly.

African immigrants are fighting with each other because they have the same basic feud over here that they had in their own country before they left.

The muslims seem to hate everyone and think we should all adopt their way of life. Basically they fucked up their own countries so now want to have a go at fucking up ours as well.

The immigration system should integrate people in a better way. Its ok to say yes you can live here but to leave people to their own devices when they are is just stupid. I've yet to meet an English speaking Somalian which is ludicrous.

I actually agree (for once) with our government that there should be a development program teaching people about the British way of life.

With regards to the British Army being the best in the world I usually hate to comment on such a subject because its a bit stupid to be proud of a killing machine but you cannot argue with the statement that Britain has the best army when we are undefeated for the best part of 1000 years.
