why don't 9mm rounds have pointed tips? I know theres many variations but wouldnt a bullet with a sharp point be effective as an armor piercing round?
well hallow points are meant to do maximum damage, they assume the high velocity will penetrate. the design is intended to shatter on impact, so in stead of just passing through the skull, they take the brain with it.
Most semi-auto handguns use a rounded off design to feed better in the ramp then on into the chamber to reduce jamming. That is why they utilize a design that opens up upon impact like the old black talons. As for penetration of like body armor one if had the right contacts could use depleted uranium or teflon coated round or just be a great shot and aim for the head!
Most rounds that are exploding fail to penetrate body armor, again a fantastic reason to practice with body targets and aim for the head, make it second nature and you shall not fail. Do this at ranges police practice at and let them know why you do it, lol
That is not true. they make tracer rounds that upon hitting a soft target, go inside and blow ub with a 3000 degree burn. And as for bullets not being pointed, that was answered already. And even if they made 9mm in armor piercing they wouldn't have the velocity to get through. .22 magnums and .223 remingtons will go through armor because of how small they are.
That is what makes sabbot rounds like a .308 with a .223 sabboted round will reach around 4000fps, plenty fast to penetrate, nosler balistic tip will allow the round to frag and do severe damage once passed the vest.
