I recently damaged my ankle and have found mobility difficult, especially when it comes to shopping. What I did find however, is being creative with the materials in the fridge, freezer, cupboards did see meals available, - albeit a temporary measure - 'not ' going to the shops for a period has saved money (one never goes to get 'bread and milk' and just get such.
Well, i assume people who adviced to live on that stuff find it at least bearable. I rather live on dry bread and bananas
I think they were saying it about getting by. Anytime in my life I've eaten ramen noodles it was to get by and not because I was like, "damn...you know what would be a very satisfying and delicious meal? A 25¢ pack of noodles!"
I don't eat bread. And bananas freak me out. They are soft and mushy and somehow firm and gritty at the same time. How is that even possible?
Corn flakes, toast.. got me through when I first lived on my own.. Bananas.. brilliant.. My kids when very small.. we made cowboy pies( our own title) Open tin of baked beans, open tin of hot dog sausages.. chop sausage in to little pieces, mix with beans.. Make pastry, flour, margarine.. water! Cut small rounds and place into pate tins, spoon in the sausage and beans mix.. pop top of pastry on.. bake.. My kids loved them.. now of course, the eat the adult way.. beans on toast lol. One of my kids once said, where did you buy them cow boy pies when we were kids...
Yeah, i got that But I guess its just me. Because if I have too little money to spend on food I wouldn't spend it on dirt cheap noodles. I would rather buy 5 bananas and half a bread. Although bread without butter or margarine is almost as bad as cheap fish fingers or noodles.. Almost!
You would love my fish finger burgers. They are delicious. I use battered cod fish fingers. They are delicious.
Basic things like tuna pasta bake are extremely cheap and go a long way. Batch cook bolognaise from scratch and it works out extremely cheap too, portion it and freeze. If you make most things from base its much cheaper and healthier in the long run. Be careful about where you shop. You can quite often pick veg up cheaper from a greengrocer rather than doing it all in a supermarket.
Very good feedback If anyone has anything relevant to share, please don't be afraid to do so. Especially welcome if you have something to specifically say about what items you have used or are using to fill the void.
Penne pasta, pesto, grated cheese and bacon bits. (You can use cooking bacon it's cheap.) Cook it all and throw it together. I'm trying to go vegan at the mo but I was flexitarian. This was a staple meal of mine and one I'll miss.
