<< "What does "shiksa" and "shaygetz" mean? How offensive are they?" >>

    << "Answer:" >>

<< "There are two possible etymologies. The first is from the German 'Schikse' and thus related to the English 'chique'. The other possibility is where the notion that the word is pejorative comes from. The term 'sheiketz' is used by the Torah uses to describe non-kosher fish and animals, as well as the rodents and house-lizards that live in our homes and impart tum'ah (the idea usually mis-translated impurity). The Hebrew origin better explains the existence of distinct male (sheigetz, probably a Yiddish slurring of "sheketz") and female (shiksa, probably from 'shiktzah') forms.

<< The only sense in which shiksa is used derogitorily is in that it implies woman-as-temptation, not as a being in and of herself and a mind of her own. Kind of like the the Seinfeld episode in which Elaine learned she had "shiksappeal". The appellations are also sometimes applied to gentiles who do things inimical to Jewish interests, such as vandalizing Jewish buildings, robbing Jewish kids of their lunch money, or becoming romantically involved with Jews :). This is based on the 'sheketz' sense, which refers to house rodents and lizards. They impart ritual impurity, and therefore the term lends itself to the same kind of idea. Some have taken to using the term to refer to Christian women in general. If Christians were using the term against Jews in English, they would be saying 'Filthy Jews' or 'Dirty Jews', and we Jews would rightly be offended. Regardless of actual history, enough people believe the derogitory nature of the word that at this point, so it is better avoided." >>

Exodus, Chapter 34 (King James Version):

11 Observe thou that which I command thee this day: behold, I drive out before thee the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

12 Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee:

13 But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves:

14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

Numbers, Chapter 33:50-56 (King James Version):

50 And the LORD spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying,

    51 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye are passed over Jordan into the land of Canaan;

52 Then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places:

53 And ye shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land, and dwell therein: for I have given you the land to possess it.

54 And ye shall divide the land by lot for an inheritance among your families: and to the more ye shall give the more inheritance, and to the fewer ye shall give the less inheritance: every man's inheritance shall be in the place where his lot falleth; according to the tribes of your fathers ye shall inherit.

55 But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.

56 Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them.

Joshua, Chapter 10 (King James Version):

33 Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua smote him and his people, until he had left him none remaining.

34 And from Lachish Joshua passed unto Eglon, and all Israel with him; and they encamped against it, and fought against it:

35 And they took it on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.

36 And Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, unto Hebron; and they fought against it:

37 And they took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but destroyed it utterly, and all the souls that were therein.

38 And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir; and fought against it:

39 And he took it, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof; and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to the king thereof; as he had done also to Libnah, and to her king.

40 So Joshua smote all the country of the hills, and of the south, and of the vale, and of the springs, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel commanded.

<< "Speaking during an interview which was published in Jerusalem Friday, Professor Martin Van Creveld said Israel had the capability of hitting most European capitals with nuclear weapons.

'We possess several hundred atomic warheads and rockets and can launch them at targets in all directions, perhaps even at Rome. Most European capitals are targets of our air force.'

Creveld, a professor of military history at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, pointed out that 'collective deportation' was Israel's only meaningful strategy towards the Palestinian people." >>

<< For many years Israelis in need of an internal organ have gone on what experts call 'transplant tourism' —traveling to other nations to obtain internal organs. Sometimes body parts are obtained from those freshly dead; more often from the desperately needy. While affluent people from numerous countries and ethnicities engage in this practice, Israel is unique in several significant ways.

<< First, Israelis engage in this at an extraordinarily high rate. According to a 2001 BBC report, Israelis buy more kidneys per capita than any other population.

<< Second, Israelis have the lowest donor rate in the world—one-fifth that of Europe, according to BBC. This is in part because there has been a widespread impression that Jewish religious law prohibits transplants as a 'desecration of the body.'10 The Israeli news service Ynet reports, 'the percentage of organs donated among Jews is the lowest of all the ethnic groups.'"11 >>

considering that rabbis get money kicked down to them for putting their stamp of approval onto such products. and most products you buy in grocery stores have such a stamp put on them. i don';t think this is fair for the average consumer to have to pay an extra cost for something that only matters to roughly two percent of the total american population. there's even kosher symbols on things such as dish washing liquids and aluminum foil. it's little more than a money making scheme, and this has even been discussed in sme financial publications as well.

why should those who don't observe kosher dietary traditions be forced to pay an extra cost for their groceries? people are already fleeced enough as it is at the supermarket anymore. especially in light of the fact that food prices keep going up.i can understand if it's pickles or even salt labeled kosher. but most of these products don't say the word kosher anywhere on the label. yet, you will find a symbol on many goods indicating a council of rabbis had their say.

instead of prematurely jumping to conclusions. why don''t you actually step into an american grocery store and see for yourself how an overwhelming majority of the products there have kosher symbols on them? am i supposed to believe that every person in the continental usa needs their dawn dishwashing liquid to be approved by rabbis? it's a money making scheme, nothing more.

    - The "big name" national brands are typically marked with a "kosher" symbol.

    - Locally-produced grocery items (at least in my area) typically aren't marked with a "kosher" symbol.

    - Whenever you buy "kosher" food and related products ... YOU'RE GIVING FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO A SYSTEM OF RELIGION THAT IS SEEKING TO KILL YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ... so you'll be doing everyone a BIG FAVOR when you limit yourself to buying only locally-produced food that isn't tainted with a "kosher" symbol.

    - You'll be eating HIGHER QUALITY and MORE NUTRITIOUS FOOD when you buy "local" instead of "kosher," and you'll also have the satisfaction of knowing that your money isn't going to the various rabbinical councils which are seeking to carry out the bloodthirsty edicts of the Torah.

It's much better for the local economy when you buy "locally" ... so buy local !

    Psalm 110 (King James Version):

5 The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath.

6 He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries.

It'll be a little tricky for me to step into an American grocery store.
If you can find a Youtube video of somebody doing so, rather than a person collecting various protects from various stores, and not really highlighting your point, it would be appreciated.

I'm sure to a certain degree it is a money making scheme.
    That wasn't really the point.
The point was where the money ends up, and what the money is used for.

If you are saying within any particular product range their isn't the option to buy similar quality products that are not kosher, somethings wrong in China Town.
I struggle to believe, if I went into walmart,, for e.g, there isn't atleast a 6 foot by 6 foot shelving of differing brands of toothpaste, just for e.g.

    Psalm 2 (King James Version):

1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,

3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision.

5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
