I hated "Memoirs of a Geisha" so much I almost threw it at the wall when I was finished it. nothing happened. I can't understand why everyone thought it was so exciting, NOTHING HAPPENED TO HER. I kept waiting and waiting and waiting for 500 pages, and then it was over, and I was left wanting that week of my life back.
Huckleberry Finn and all that Mark Twain "chillin by the southern mississippi for 300 pages" BS. Most book I can at least understand why some people would like them. Huck shoulda drowned.
I felt the same way about that book. Really boring. I have never been ablt to get into anything by a Bronte sister. Bad librarian.:&
wow one of the books i like is on the list twice I guess that goes to show that personal preference is all that really matters. (i liked the Bell jar). so many people mentioned the scarlet letter and i have to say that normally I would like this novel, but after reading forty thousand times as an english major its like a song played over and over on the radio until just the mention of it makes me annoyed. any how. I can not stand anything written by clive barker (my husbands favorite) I can't get through stephen king. tom wolfe is rather crappy as well he wrote one good book and thought he would slide through on that for life. and lastly that stupid what dreams may come book that came out like 8 years ago what a bunch of background and no action.
i Hate books wriitten by Chairman Mao or Deng Xiao Ping , or Jiang Zhe Min.. i dont like those books which is talking about faked theory of socialism .
Is that because you cannot admit to liking them else the government will feel this is bad - they are trying to say they are no longer hard-line communists but I think China must retain its opposition to capitalism - These books are surely important documents and should be read because they show what was in the minds of those people The books I hate the most is The Bible The Qurran Any "holy book" Books by right wing politicians Books by Carl Marx Books by liberals (too conservative) Any book that doesnt stimulate my imagination
though steinbeck's ok; that grapes of wrath was ok if a bit sentimental. kinda informative (some distortion of the facts though probably).
Any John Grisham Any Dan Brown Any self help/motivational books Any religious books Any romance novels (Barbra Cartland,Mills & Boon, etc)
Haha, The Hobbit. Lord of the Flies wasn't great, but I don't think I hated it. Same with Old Man and the Sea... bored me. I don't know about the Bell Jar. I loved it and I hated it.
I can't get into the LOTR books at all. I also hate Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton. I had to read it for English class this year... It really sucked, in my opinion.
yer LOTR far too much detail!!! would be a much better read if it had been cut down a few books to just the actually story but this films were awsome!!! I haven't managed to get to the end of lord of the flies eather i dont no what it is but the book just bores me i think. Measure for measure by shakespeare does that count im doing it for my A level English at the moment and its driving the whole class mad!! nothing happens! And apparently its a problem play cose it doesn't fit into the other catorges of shakespeare or maby he just wrote a bad play!! ahhhhh
"Cities Of The Red Night" by William Burroughs. I really went out of my way to buy this one as I thought it might be fascinating, and when it came to the whole part about how much Burroughs (through his main character) hated dogs, and how the kid character was terrorizing that poor dog who was so frightened of him and had never done him any harm... and then the kid wanting to pull an absolutely inhumane torture on that poor dog, who was described as looking up at him while hiding and whimpering... ...well, that was the only book in my life I had ever read which made me literally throw it down on the floor in disgust. I love animals, and torturing innocent animals ain't my idea of "entertainment"! I marched right back to where I got it and got my money back.
Well... I would say I hate all the books I sold last year, especially those which were on the store windows! But I hate most all those people who buy them!
I usually love everything I read but last year in school we had to read "holes". How it got to be a childrens best seller I don't know because it absoloutely sucked! It was badly written, the story was ruined for me because we had to watch the film and even worse we had to write an essay about how much we "loved" it!
I hated The Awakening by Kate Chopin. Edna didn't seem to want freedom, rather, she wanted to be like the people around her. It was a short book but I kept praying for the end to come.
