there are books in my closet, ottoman, and there's a bookcase full of books in my room. my parents have 3 bookcases in the living room (8 feet tall/to the ceiling) and a small bookcase. as well as our basement having many boxes of books. am I the only one who has this "issue" of book hoarding? *_*
I worked in libraries from 1978 through 2011. The last 21 years I purchased books for a university library. If I learned anything at all it is that books do go out of print. I do love reading from an actual book.... not the e kind. I have no idea how many books I have now but I would never consider it hoarding.
If by 'hoarding' you mean keeping books in other places than a bookshelf, say, for scarcity of real estate, then sure, it's not ideal. Between my girlfriend and myself, we have tons and tons of books, and not nearly enough space to store them in a proper place - I think 3/4 of mine are still in boxes, gathering dust. We now have a deal that any new acquisition must involve letting go of a tome of equal volume. There's plenty that could be missed, it's not like our collection consists exclusively of essential, canonical works, either. Still, I much prefer to be surrounded by dusty books on all sides, than to have one of those pristine McMansions you see - American - celebrities have: 20 rooms with different themes and entertainment options, yet not a book in sight.
We used to have a bookstore here called Bibliomania. Most of their books were used and I used to love to go there looking for treasures.
I like to buy books or hoard them, but I don't end up reading all of them. I want to recommend a memoir.
I've been collecting books for years. Can't bring myself to get rid of any, so they just pile up, and up... anyone ever built a house from books?
You can learn just about anything you need to know by reading books...go to school and they're gonna make you read books. You can get college textbooks if you wanna learn about something without actually paying to go to college
I do, and as for the past few years I have been living in several different countries, I would always be so gutted to throw out my books. Books are my friends when the world is a bad place. It really does feel like throwing out a friend when you throw out a book.
I'm not a "hoarder" per se, but I can't throw them away because what if I want to read them :book: I'd like to think all of my books are good books. Oh, except the first Twilight book I got from a friend and it's almost untouched. I did read a page or two. THIS. My heart goes out to you. I know the feeling.
Do I...? I own more books than everything else I own combined. I have a massive love for smelly old books. Sometimes I pick them up just to sniff them. Aaahh.. Old book! It started with me collecting books of poetry from the end of the 19th century and early 20th. From there it became an endless pursuit.
