Hang on, I forgot to name a book that made my laugh. ANYTHING BY DAVE BARRY!!! Specifically Big Trouble. It was HILARIOUS. I definitely recommend it.
Ah, yes. That's definitely a clever-funny. David Sedaris...although I find it's usually only the first half of the books that are funny.
Everything by Chuck Palahniuk made me laugh hysterically, but especially Choke for sure. I laughed a lot reading Wally Lamb's books She's Come Undone and I Know This Much is True. Both were horribly sad, but told the story in a very humorous way, especially the latter.
There's a really funny author by the name of Christopher Moore. I found him quite by accident, as I was searching for horror fiction one day, and a title caught my eye. That book was called Practical Demonkeeping . Many pages and books later, he remains one of my favorites. My favorite is probably Lamb:The Gospel According to BIff, Christ's Childhood Pal , a laugh-out-loud fantasy about the early years of Jesus, as told by his best friend Biff. Definitely worth a read, folks...
Christopher Moore has a new one called Fluke out. I just picked it up yesterday, and I'm devouring it...I'm telling you, HipForumers, if you like laugh out loud but well-written books, this is your guy.
yep Moore is funny. I liked Island of the Sequined Love Nun (how can you leave that title on the shelf?), Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove as well. Biff takes the cake, though. Look, a Seagull! Don't think he is basically funnier than Tom Robbins, just lighter.
The book that has made me laugh and laugh since I was a kid is The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster. So much wordplay (yes they are super nerdy laughs, but hey). And Bill Bryson's books are hillarious, it's got to the stage where I don't really like taking them on public transport because they make me laugh so hard.
The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy series is the only book that consistantly makes me laugh. Oh and The Soddit - parody of The Hobbit - made me laugh too.
Adrian Mole Diaries (any of them) by Sue Townsend constantly make me laugh, as did "life's not all haha hehe" by meera syal. Brilliant social commentary.
Surely someone's posted this already, but I think Our Dumb Century is the funniest thing I've ever seen in printed form.
