To go to the 3rd roo, we drove all the way there from the Willamette Valley in Oregon (2100-2200 miles or so...). We left ourselves plenty of time, left early, got there two days before they opened the gates and added to the crowd that caused them to open the gates a day early. Barely waited in line, we were probably in the first 50 cars to make it in. :)

As far as money is concerned, for those who have gone in the past, what do you suggest?

How much for the tickets? How much for food? How much for everything else?

Me and a few friends are looking into going

for tickets, try and get early bird tix. you are going to be spending a lot on gas if you're driving, so the cheaper the ticket the better.

    DON'T BUY FOOD AT ROO.
bring all your food. (canned soups, spaghetti-o's, canned beans & wraps, snacks, "pre packaged food")
i suggest bringing a small propane camping stove. (don't forget a pan, pot, and utensils)
    ($10-$30)

    Don't buy drinks either.
your going to need a cooler or 2.
buy 40+ water bottles per person. freeze all the water a few days before roo. then right before you leave pack all the frozen bottles in your cooler(s).
don't open your cooler every 5 mins while at your camp site. the less you open it the longer you will have cold water with out having to pay $5-7 a bag for ice.
normally, if your bottle is sealed, the staff at centeroo wont make you dump out you bottle before entering. so keep it sealed if your going to centeroo.

there are a bunch of merchants at roo. some on the main road(food), some on shakedown, and some in centeroo.
all glass is sold by vendors on shakedown. there are a shit load of cheep yet awesome crafts, clothing, jewelery, glass, and assorted goodies on shakedown. i recommend making all of your purchases there, because the prices are decent, ant it is closer to most campsites then centeroo.
in centeroo the prices go up, and what ever you buy there you have to carry around with you unless you wanna walk a couple miles back to your campsite.

to me there is only one or two things i will spend my money on while I'm there... and no vendors sell them... ...just gotta keep you ears open till you find your new best friend.

Here is an example of how this festival has gone down hill:

What was your favorite Bonnaroo lineup?

2002: Widespread Panic, Trey Anastasio, Phil Lesh and Bob Weir, String Cheese Incident, Ben Harper

    462
    38.2%

2004: Dave Matthews and Friends, The Dead, Trey Anastasio, Bob Dylan, David Byrne

    271
    22.4%

2003: Neil Young, The Dead, Widespread Panic, Flaming Lips, James Brown

    243
    20.1%

2006: Radiohead, Tom Petty, Phil Lesh and Friends, Oysterhead, Bonnie Raitt

    126
    10.4%

2005: Dave Matthews Band, Widespread Panic, Trey Anastasio, Modest Mouse, Herbie Hancock

    108
    8.9%

Do you see the trend? I assure that Clear Channel does not need your money as much as your local music festivals do. Just say NO to mass produced, non-hippy, money grubbing, over-produced, cop laden, road blockin CRAP!

Just my opinion, take it or leave it.

Bonnaroo is definitely becoming a little more commercial, but give me a break... they had RADIOHEAD last year. It was incredible. In fact, I just read that Radiohead is making a DVD of their Bonnaroo performance. Last year featured Radiohead, Oysterhead (featuring Trey of course), Petty, Moe, Phil Lesh, Beck, Sonic Youth... it was killer. If you want all jam bands, Bonnaroo isn't going to be your thing, but there was plenty music to go around for heads and everyone else for that matter.

And by the way, any line-up with Dave Matthews automatically ranks below last year's, so that disqualifies several years right there.
